Drake has dominated the current streaming era, continually breaking records yearly. With his new project Scorpion now out, the double album is setting new marks as expected. On Spotify, Scorpion has broken the global Spotify record for biggest opening day with 132 million streams on June 29. It nearly doubles the previously record holder, Post Malone’s beerbongs & bentleys at 78.7 million. Stateside, Drizzy’s album also broke the Spotify USA’s opening day record with 80.5 million streams in the U.S., surpassing Malone’s 47.9 million. “Nonstop” is the popular song on Spotify’s platform, setting a new global single day record with 9.3m streams. 17 of the 18 most played songs on the Spotify charts are from Scorpion, with XXXTentacion’s “SAD!” being the only record outside of the album, sitting at No. 13.
For Apple Music, The Verge reports Scorpion breaks their biggest single day streaming record. The 25-song LP pulled in 170 million streams during its first 24 hours, taking the top spot from Drake’s More Life, that previously held the record with 89.9 streams.

Vic Mensa recently stopped by Power 106 Los Angeles, where sitting down with the L.A. Leakers he ripped another freestyle. Fresh off that performance, the Chicago artist/activist returns with a record, with sharp verses over a Fugees sample on “10K Problems.” A lyrical exercise for Young Mensa, hear it below.

The fifth season of Power debuts on Starz this Sunday, July 1, at 8 p.m. EST. Starring Omari Hardwick, Joseph Sikora, Naturi Naughton, Lala Anthony, Lela Loren, and Rotimi, the hit television series held a huge premiere party at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on Thursday night (Jun. 28). 50 Cent, who serves as executive producer and stars in the action-drama, performed the popular theme song “Big Rich Town” in front of a crowd of fans and celebrities from the entertainment industry. It was a memorable performance thanks to the G-Unit CEO pulling out all the stops, having a full orchestra and choir back him and he gave a live rendition of the smooth record.

Buddy may be California down to the Chucks, but he’s been living it up in Europe this week. After knocking out shows in Paris and London, the Compton rapper swung by BBC Radio 1Xtra offices to join the esteemed class of Live Lounge performers. Between surprise releases and livestreamed listening parties in the middle of nowhere, artists are getting more creative with their album rollouts these days. For his upcoming solo LP Assassination Day, Cypress Hill’s DJ Muggs is teasing out the project in individual chapters with various MCs. The first chapter finds Muggs joining forces with fellow hip-hop legend MF DOOM for a devastating one-two punch. Last week we heard the pair’s “Death Wish” collaboration with Freddie Gibbs; today we’ve got the B-side cut, “Assassination Day,” featuring the venerable Kool G Rap.
Dropping August 3, DJ Muggs’ Assassination Day is described as “a thematic album with a vigilante concept where hip-hop takes corruption head-on, figuratively killing off powerful evildoers in positions of power as the story unfolds.”

Fresh off her appearances on Kanye West’s Ye and Nas’ Nasir albums, 070 Shake keeps the momentum rolling into the summer with her new video for “”I Laugh When I’m With Friends But Sad When I’m Alone.” Following up her “Mirrors” video, this latest clip finds the G.O.O.D. Music rookie getting out her lonely thoughts surrounded by literal (and metaphorical) darkness.
The song is taken from 070 Shake’s debut EP Glitter, which dropped earlier this year via G.O.O.D. Music/Def Jam.

After making their comeback last year with Humanz, their first album in seven years, Gorillaz are back quicker than your average with their follow-up LP, The Now Now. The 11-song project is a departure from the star-studded affair that was their last effort, with only triple OG Snoop Dogg, jazz legend George Benson and house pioneer Jamie Principle making up the guest list this time round. But if there’s one thing we’ve learned about Damon Albarn, it’s that he’s never relied on other people (non-digital humans, anyway) to realize his creative vision.
