I can only imagine how this performance would have sounded with the whole Clan there, but The Roots and Mef sure did a hell of a job filling in for the missing members. Extra props should go to Black Thought for killing the Wu verses. In other Wu news, the clan is confirmed for this year’s Bonaroo festival. (spotted at RR)
Miguel changes the pace once again for the latest video from Kaleidoscope Dreams . In his black & white set, the crooner tackles social and world issues with glimpses of poverty, drugs, war and more. I like how he flipped Mayfield’s lyrics on this one.
“It’s so easy to ignore what’s right in front of us sometimes. I wanted to create a song and visual that addressed my everyday concerns of life as I know it in the world that we live in,” says Miguel of “Candle in the Sun.”
After launching a new Youtube network with A-Trak and Skrillex named POTATO, Diplo dropped some new visuals from last year’s Express Yourself EP. The trippy clip features a whole of rump shaking and animation. If you’re feeling it, make the purchase on iTunes right here. Directed by Reuben Dangoor.
Just days after Lil Wayne rallied a “f*ck the NBA” chant (complete with some allegations about Chris Bosh’s wife), this emerging war of words between rap and the NBA bled over into Washington D.C. last night, where Wale took exception to a few cheeky comments made by Raptors TV announcer Matt Devlin.
Sitting courtside for the Raptors-Wizards game, the MMG rapper was apparently talking trash to the visiting team’s new forward, Rudy Gay. Picking up on the exchange, Devlin — out of comical slander or pure ignorance — introduced the MC to the viewers at home as “local rapper Wall-Aye” and asked if anyone on Twitter had “ever heard of Wall-Aye.” Adding insult to injury, Devlin then remarked, “He’s not Drake, that’s for sure.” (Ether!)
Overhearing Devlin’s comments, Wale tweeted to him directly “watch ur mouth” and shortly after approached the announcers’ table and interrupted the commentary. Hey, at least he didn’t get called will.i.am.
Atlanta’s Young Scooter has the southern streets buzzing with his current anthem “Colombia.” Now the Brick Squad member calls on a few big money heavyweights on the official remix. Rick Ross, Birdman and Gucci Mane take the gritty cut to another level on Scooter’s new single. His new mixtape, Juughouse is due later this year.
“Ni**a tried to kill me, but I had the thing cocked. They think I know the voodoo, how they keep showing my ghost on that Channel 2.” – Rick Ross

Celebrities, tastemakers, designers and more have made their way to Sin City this week for the annual PROJECT Las Vegas convention. The 2013 edition kicked off on Tuesday at Mandalay Bay as Reebok hosted a press conference to announce the return of the Reebok Shaq Attaq, the signature classic sneaker worn by 15-time NBA All-Star Shaquille O’Neal. Swizz Beatz hosted the event as he unveiled the new retro version of Shaq’s sneaker while also reflecting back on the 7’1 center’s illustrious career. Another Reebok brand ambassador in Tyga also appeared at the conference to show support as his own sneaker, the T-Raww’s are available in-stores nationwide now.

You know the only thing missing from the Harlem Shake videos? Actual Harlem Shaking.
Oh yeah…remember that little wobbly dance craze that was all the rage in the early 2000′s when it appeared in various Bad Boy music videos? One of the few dance fads that was best done by kids under the age of 16. Something about loose connective tissue perhaps.
Well, the Baauer song and viral meme is not about that Harlem dance. Sorry G.Dep.
And when Shlepp Films went to Harlem to see if the streets are “con los terroristas” with the rest of the “Harlem Shake” fanatics….the answer was a big fat no.
“They look like they smoked some dust…”
Well…actually, lol.
To be fair…I’m pretty sure there are more kids in Harlem dancing around in spirit hoods and “air humping” to the EDM “Harlem Shake” than there are kids doing the Harlem “Harlem Shake” in 2013…but it would be great to see someone tackle a hybrid-homage video to both past and present dance crazes. DO IT!
Until then….Let’s compare the Porn Star “Harlem Shake” to the Bad Boy “Harlem Shake”…
After the jump… (more…)
Fresh off winning and performing at the Grammy Awards, Frank Ocean made his way across the Atlantic to London, England this week. The singer took time from his busy schedule to catch up with BBC Radio 1′s Zane Lowe on Tuesday afternoon. During their on-air conversation they discuss his unforgettable night at the GRAMMYs, and name drops Prince as the one artist he would’ve love to have met that evening.
The two also discuss recently working with Pharrell, an upcoming studio session with Dangermouse, and being a fan of U.K.’s King Krule. When it comes to his sophomore album, Frank reveals that he’s deep into the new record and that he’s planning to rent a place in Bora Bora to work on his new project following his London trip.
“I’m like 10, 11 songs into this next thing. It’s another cohesive thing, bordering on a concept record again. At the end of channel, ORANGE there’s “Golden Girl,” and it’s this beach scene. And I kind of want it to extend that feel into the next record all together, kind of make it that theme.”
Just Blaze isn’t the only hip-hop producer to venture into the world of trap music; DJ Green Lantern has also been flexing his bass levels and hi-hats. The Evil Genius recently released a 40-minute EDM mix entitled Altitude, which was opened by a unique trap remake of Jay-Z’s “Jigga That Ni**a.” Due to popular demand, Green Lantern has released the remix, which he calls “Jigga Man Bootleg,” in its full form today. This should be played at high volume… preferably in a residential area.
They brought us the smash-hit “Look at Me Now,” now Afrojack and Chris Brown connect again on “As Your Friend.” The dance cut is set to appear on the popular DJ/producer’s forthcoming debut album due later this year via Wall Recordings. We can see this rocking parties all year as Brown’s vocals compliment the electric co-production from Afrojack, Styles, DJ Buddha and Polow da Don. You can hit iTunes right now to purchase the song.
