After dropping two quietly impressive EPs — Ocean & Montana with KAYTRANADA and Magnolia with Mike & Keyz — in 2017, and spending a number of years before that in limbo as Pharrell’s “protégé,” Buddy is finally set to release his debut album this summer. He’s already warmed us up with the funky “Trouble on Central” and the A$AP Ferg-assisted “Black,” and today he treats us to this new track called “Hey Up There” featuring Ty Dolla $ign and OverDoz.’s Kent Jamz.

The song finds the usually happy-go-lucky Buddy getting more introspective than we’re used to (“I’ve been on my job too long / Damn right I know what I do wrong”), but his reflection still radiates a steely determination that will definitely rub off on you. Plus, it comes complete with a video which finds Buddy getting his helicopter pilot on.

Buddy’s debut album Harlan & Alondra drops July 20 via RCA Records/Cool Lil Company.
