Vic Mensa

Chance The Rapper isn’t the only Chicago rapper offering a refreshing alternative to drill rap. Since calling it a day with his band Kids These Days to focus on his solo career earlier this year, Vic Mensa has been upping his stock with catchy, soulful efforts like “Orange Soda” and “Hollywood LA” (you can hear both below).

Tonight, the 20-year-old MC collaborates with fellow Chi-Town up-and-comer Rockie Fresh for his latest joint, “Time Is Money,” which boasts some polished production from Boi-1da and The Maven Boys. He’s keeping the release date a secret for now, but Vic’s debut solo mixtape, INNANETAPE, isn’t one you want to sleep on.

nelly-get-like-me

Nelly heats up on screens in his new video, “Get Like Me.” The visual in support of his lead single is a black-and-white affair as Nicki Minaj and Pharrell co-star in the Colin Tilley-directed clip. As with all of Nicki Minaj’s video appearances this summer, the Queen Barbie sizzles as she shows off her trademark voluptuous curves.

Due later this year, Nelly’s M.O. LP will feature appearances from 2 Chainz, Nelly Furtado, Future, T.I., Trey Songz, and more.

It’s no secret that Tupac’s impact stretches far across the globe. His influence not only touches kids from the inner city but from all walks of life. Take Icona Pop for example, the Swedish electro pop duo recently sampled Pac’s “Me and My Girlfriend” for their own hit “Girlfriend.” While many thought he they got the idea from Hov’s interpretation, the girls say it was all 2pac on their mind when they hit the studio.

P31: You guys just put the video for Girlfriend out which samples the hook from, most recently, Beyonce and Jay-z’s Bonnie and Clyde 03. Whose idea was it to use that hook and is that something that was played in Sweden 10 years ago?

C: Yeah but, we went into it thinking more about the Tupac version—I mean it was Tupac’s song from the beginning and he’s singing me and my Girlfriend and he’s referring to his gun but were doing it more like a celebration for our friendship. We were sitting in the studio talking about, we don’t even have a home, we don’t have—we just have each other and that’s all we need in this life of sin, and we thought it just related to what we were going through so we sent a letter to Tupac’s mother to ask if we could use the song, and she said yes.

camron 1

I don’t think anything will ever top that all-over print “Glare and Wink” T-Shirt when it comes to Cam’ron-inspired threads (ok, maybe these socks). But if you’re looking for something a little less out there, artist Kristofferson San Pablo has got you covered. He’s printed his own painting of Killa’s classic 2003 Grammys outfit onto a pair of tees, available in white and black. Also part of his new collection is a tee that reimagines Jean-Michel Basquiat as a Simpsons character (called Bartsquiat), perched in front of a painting of Homer penises. Nice.

You can cop both tees over on San Pablo’s Vacancy Projects store for a reasonable $30.

As part of their 2013 Art Labels Project, Beck’s invited a handful of artists, including Kid Cudi, Marc Ecko and Willis Earl Beal, to design their own label to grace more than 13 million of their beer bottles for the next three months. In the latest spot, Cudi breaks down the design of his label, which incorporates all the artwork elements of his existing album covers. Shot by the folks over at ILLROOTS.

Kirko Bangz

Kirko Bangz may have taken offence to being left off Beyoncé’s “I Been On (Remix),” but the XXL Freshman recruits his own all-star Houston cast on “Cup Up Top Down.” Kirko toasts to codeine and coupés alongside H-Town legends Z-Ro, Slim Thug and Paul Wall over the slow-crawling groove.

His new Progression III mixtape was scheduled to release tomorrow (August 1), but will now arrive at a later date.
