Mikey: In an effort to raise awareness for the fight against diabetes, Hip-Hop legends KRS-One, Dres (Black Sheep), Greg Nice, and few a more performed for a benefit concert last night at the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn. Hosted by Michael Rappaport, Phife Dawg, and Okayplayer, the event had a line wrapped around the block all night long. But around midnight it was pretty clear who the folks came to see… minutes later Jay Electhanukkah crept out from the clusterf*ck going on backstage, that’s when I opted to climb back into the crowd for a better shot. It’s only just begun…
MissInfo: First off, big up to all the folks who performed because the threat of diabetes is such a scary thing, and it’s great to see Phife back in action. I’m not sure what makes people all mash up on a tiny stage, but big up to Mikey for thugging it out, lol. Now I heard Mel D Cole was there so I’m sure some dope images are soon to come, but I also got an email from the Keap Hope blog with their show post link. (Is this blog a Williamsburg blog? because there’s both a Keap St. and a Hope St. in the area. Hmm). Also big up to my Mighty Healthy family who were there: Denis, Drew, Damian and John.
-Fashion: There were two photos that….well, frankly…they confused me.
(On the left: Chris Brown at Milan Fashion Week, imitating an formal chauffeur-turned-hillside-strangler. Sleeves tucked in?) (pic spotted at TMZ)
(On the right: Monique and husband at this past Sunday’s Golden Globe awards…but…where’s PETA to regulate that mink pelt on her legs? *shivers*) (pic spotted at SandraRose)
After the jump….Nivea remakes her 2nd baby daddy’s worker’s song and turns it into a tale of abandoned love…
Mikey: The always hustlin’, Jessie Maguire recently took a trip out to Brooklyn and sat on the benches with Joell Ortiz & Frequency to discuss their recent street album Roadkill, Joell’s forthcoming sophomore album, Joell learning from the rest of Slaughterhouse, and their upcoming European tour.
Mikey: Dope PBS documentary on the history of copyright laws in the music industry and how they’ve affected rap music over the years. Props to YN for the rip.
Rihanna “Redemption Song” (For Haiti Relief)

Mikey: Rihanna channels the late Bob Marley and shows her support to Haiti. She’ll be performing this song on Oprah’s live special which airs this afternoon titled, Just Back from Haiti—Wyclef Jean’s Devastating Eyewitness Account. Remember you can still donate by simply texting “yele” to “501 501”.
Mikey: Shaheem Reid and MTV’s Mixtape Daily caught up with Styles P & Green Lantern to get the skinny on their upcoming collaborative album/mixtape The Green Ghost Project (Feb 2.)…
“We never did a whole joint together,” Green said about how the project came together. “We was like, ‘When we do it, it’s gonna be groundbreaking.’ Nobody never did nothing like this before. It’s groundbreaking. Normally, when people do these types of things, they pair up and do a mixtape. This is more than that. This is a collaboration. It’s a mixtape feel, ’cause it’s me and him, but it’s really got an album feel. I produced half of the joints. Then I put on my executive-producer hat, called up the homies. They came through with some fire joints. Scram Jones, the Alchemist, Buckwild, Statik Selektah, Dame Grease, Vinny Idol and Poobs all added beats.”
The riffs on Kanye and cousin Darwish aren’t new, but they’re still funny. These parts are from comedian Aziz Ansari’s recent Comedy Central special/album “Intimate Moments for a Sensual Evening”. And Aziz is also on the cast of Parks and Recreation, which has totally grown on me….(thanks to Dre/Nahright for the link)
Waka Flocka Flame (who is part of Gucci Mane’s Brick Squad crew, and Mizay Mgmt as well) was shot today in an alleged robbery attempt. There are reports that it happened at a gas station or at the barbershop….either way, from what I’m hearing, Waka was not shot in the chest (as is widely rumored), and is not in critical condition. Insiders are citing arm/shoulder wounds and say that the young “O, Let’s Do It” rapper will be ok. Which is good news.
UPDATE: The bullet apparently passed through Waka’s arm, and into his ribcage, damaging his lung.
Mikey: Yesterday, the web was flooded with new Drake songs, some unreleased and reference sounding tracks of course. But the keeper of the bunch is “My New” which features Von Pea of Tanya Morgan & Phonte of Little Brother and Nottz on the beats. Such a dope mix of styles on this one…
