The news of Prince’s death has shocked the world, as many continue to mourn the fallen icon. Celebrities such as President Obama, Justin Timberlake, Oprah, Lil’ Wayne, R. Kelly, Chaka Khan, Rita Ora, The Weeknd, Questlove and more took to various social media platforms and media outlets to express their condolences over Prince’s passing.

For Frank Ocean, the Grammy Award-winning singer wrote a letter to the legendary vocalist, posting the tribute on Tumblr. In the lengthy letter, Frank reveals “When You Were Mine” off 1980’s Dirty Mind is his favorite Prince song, and touches on how the singer made an impact outside of music, helping him identify with his sexuality.

Thank technology for the livestream. No seriously, you may judge for me sounding ungrateful for having the privilege of obtaining press credentials (free passes!) for all the major musical festivals in America with a single e-mail. But as a veteran of SXSW, Coachella, Governors Ball, etc. — my days as a cheerful, green “festival journalist” have come and gone, man. Be thankful you can just watch the concerts livestreamed from the comfort of your own home.

DJ/producer pioneer Chuck Chillout announced the news on Twitter early Wednesday morning (Mar. 23), followed by DJ/producer Statik Selektah later confirming the news.

Hearts are heavy in the Atlanta Hip-Hop community as rapper Bankroll Fresh was shot to death early Saturday morning (Mar. 5). NBC 11 Alive News reports that Bankroll Fresh was murdered at Street Execs Studio in Northeast Atlanta.

The music world lost a legend, as Maurice White has passed away. White, 74, was the co-founder and leader of the legendary funk group Earth, Wind & Fire. Maurice passed away at his Los Angeles home on Wednesday after a long battle with Parkinsons Disease.

My brother, hero and best friend Maurice White passed away peacefully last night in his sleep,” Earth, Wind & Fire member Verdine White said in a statement to The Associated Press. “While the world has lost another great musician and legend, our family asks that our privacy is respected as we start what will be a very difficult and life changing transition in our lives. Thank you for your prayers and well wishes.” The group also posted a message on Twitter saying, “Our brother Maurice White passed peacefully in his sleep this morning. The light is he, shining on you and me.”

Many, including Magic Johnson, Questlove, Q-Tip, and Juicy J took the time to send their condolences via social media on Thursday evening. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000, Earth, Wind & Fire will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 58th annual GRAMMY Awards on Feb. 15 in Los Angeles.

Singer Natalie Cole passed away on Thursday night in Los Angeles confirms a publicist. The daughter of the legendary Nat King Cole died at the age of 65, from congestive heart failure. Natalie’s kidney troubles dates back to 2008, when she was diagnosed with hepatitis C. In 2009, Cole underwent a successful kidney transplant at at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Natalie had previously attributed her illness to her battles trying to stop using ocaine and heroin. She had been sober for a while following a few stints in a rehabilitation clinic. A six-time Grammy Award winner, Natalie Cole will best be remembered for the classics “This Will Be” and “Unforgettable.”

It is with heavy hearts that we bring to you all the news of our Mother and sister’s passing,” a rep says in a statement released to TMZ. “Natalie fought a fierce, courageous battle, dying how she lived..with dignity, strength and honor. Our beloved Mother and sister will be greatly missed and remain UNFORGETTABLE in our hearts forever.”

The drama between Meek Mill and Drake continues. Just 24 hours after Drake took to the OVO Fest stage, with a scathing opening set directed at Meek Mill, the Philly rapper debuted a new diss track towards the Canadian superstar. During “The Pinkprint” tour stop in Charlotte, NC on Tuesday night, the MMG rapper debuted a new response track, acapella. “Wayne don’t f**k with you, Stunna don’t f**k with you, Tyga don’t f**k with you,” raps Meek, referring to Drake’s past feud with his YMCMB labelmate. He continued, “Everybody catching bullet holes, including Drake and the whole OVO.”
