The 2019 NBA All-Star Game is a little over two weeks away. On Tuesday night (Jan. 29), the National Basketball Association announced J. Cole will serve as headliner for the All-Star Game’s halftime show. It will be a homecoming for Cole World, who grew up just three hours away in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The news comes a week after the Dreamville star dropped his new single “Middle Child.” Meek Mill, who made his Saturday Night Live debut last week, will kick things off by performing during the All-Star introductions.
Anthony Hamilton, a Charlotte native, will sing the U.S. national anthem, while Carly Rae Jepsen has been tapped to sing the Canadian national anthem. The 68th annual NBA All-Star Game takes place on Feb. 17 at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, televised live at 8 p.m. ET on TNT.

Yo Gotti brings elegant dining to the trap in “Put a Date on It.” In the music video for his new single, Gotti and QC’s Lil’ Baby fine dine in the hood with a butler and chauffeur in tow. The mid day gathering turns into a parade throughout the streets before being quickly whisked away. Memphis natives BlocBoy JB, MoneyBagg Yo and Blac Youngsta all make cameos in the clip.

After chasing Lil’ Uzi Vert around the Christmas holidays, Nardwuar returns with his first interview of the new year. G.O.O.D. Music/Cactus Jack artist Sheck Wes caught up with Nardwuar backstage at the ‘Astroworld’ tour in Vancouver, Canada. During their 10-minute conversation, Sheck and ‘The Human Serviette’ discuss 70s Senegalese music, Erykah Badu once styling the Harlem star for Pyer Moss, Shaquille O’Neil being a fan of his from the early days, and more. The “Mo Bamba” rapper ended the talk by kicking a freestyle in Wolof, the native language of Senegal.

Future tops the Billboard 200 album chart this week, as his latest album The WIZRD debuts at No. 1. The album is the Atlanta rapper’s sixth No. 1 project, moving 126,000 equivalent album units (15,000 in traditional album sales) opening week according to Nielsen Music. Even more remarkable is Future’s tally of six No. 1s have come in a span of three years, five months and three weeks, first starting with DS2 in August 2015.
Featuring appearances by Travis Scott, Young Thug, and Gunna, The WIZRD landed 143.6 million on-demand audio streams, becoming the Freebandz star’s largest streaming week for an album.

Cardi B took over the AVN Awards on Sunday night (Jan. 26), becoming the first female musical performer in the show’s history. Hosted by adult stars Romi Rain and Bailey Rayne at The Joint inside the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Cardi B electrified the stage with medley performance of songs like “Bickenhead,” “She Bad” and “Be Careful.” “I’m so excited for these awards… more than the Grammys. I don’t know why,” said the excited Bronx star at one point on stage, reports TMZ. In various sexy outfits unveiled on Instagram, the former stripper turned rap sensation also performed a private, 40-minute show for the cam girls (adult stars who perform live stream shows).
Cardi’s appearance at the AVN’s comes a few weeks ahead of the 2019 GRAMMY Awards, where she was recently announced as a performer. Cardi is nominated five times, including ‘Album of the Year’ for her Invasion of Privacy debut.

Meek Mill made his Saturday Night Live debut this weekend, appearing as musical guest on the famed late-night sketch comedy show. Introduced by Scottish actor and guest host James McAvoy, Meek Mill took to SNL‘s Studio 8H stage to perform the songs “Going Bad” and “Uptown Vibes” with surprise guest Fabolous. The Dreamchasers rapper would later return for a second performance, delivering a live rendition of the title-track off his latest album.
That album, CHAMPIONSHIPS, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart last year. Watch Meek’s SNL debut below.

On J. Cole’s new single “Middle Child,” the Dreamville MC raps the line “I studied the greats, I’m the greatest right now.” The lyric started the debate across social media and in the Hip-hop community, is Cole World the greatest rapper of this current generation? Tory Lanez, who has been challenging any major lyricist to trade bars going back to last year, inserted himself into the discussion by proclaiming himself the best rapper alive right now.
Tired of Tory’s talk, Highbridge the Label’s Don Q claps at the Toronto star on “I’m Not Joyner.” Don, takes aim at Lanez over Puff Daddy’s “Victory” instrumental. The two have some history, as many freestyle aficionados have accused Tory of jacking Don Q’s flow and rap patterns.

Chris Brown made headlines earlier this week, after a woman accused the singer and two other individuals of rape in a Paris hotel room. Brown and the two unnamed males were eventually released by local authorities and no charges were issued. Chris Brown is now countersuing his accuser for defamation, confirmed by his lawyer Raphaël Chiche in a tweet on Thursday (Jan. 24), noting the city’s public prosecutor filed a complaint against Brown’s anonymous accuser “for slanderous denunciation” of his client.
In the midst of his latest drama, Brown returns to the music by dropping the song “Who Dis.” A song Team Breezy fans have been requesting for three years after being teased online, hear the full version below.

Ahead of Super Bowl LIII on February 3 where a commercial will debut, 2 Chainz and Expensify release a new song and accompanying music video called “Expensify This.” Co-starring Adam Scott who plays a music label executive, 2 Chainz is told to keep track of the expenses he builds up during the filming of a music video.
