Deadstar

Florida’s Smokepurpp has dropped his new project Deadstar, which is stacked with guest spots from Chief Keef, Juicy J, Yo Gotti, D.R.A.M. and Lil Pump. One collaboration that didn’t make the cut, however, is “Fingers Blue” featuring Travi$ Scott, which Purpp went ahead and released anyway. What’s more, news surfaced last night that Travi$ has signed Smokepurpp (who also has a deal with Todd Moscowitz’s Alamo Records) to his Cactus Jack label, which he launched earlier this year.

lute-west1996-part-2

After seeing J.I.D and EarthGang seize their moment with dope projects this year, up next to bat for J. Cole’s Dreamville crew is Lute. The North Carolina rapper actually signed to the label back in 2015 and appeared on the Revenge of the Dreamers II compilation, but consider this his formal introduction to the world.

Serving as the follow-up to his 2012 debut mixtape, West 1996 Pt. 2 brings Lute’s tales of hardship and hope to life over smooth, jazzy production from Cam O’bi, Elite and more. “It’s a window into the last five years of my life: the obstacles, the challenges, the changes,” he says. “It’s also motivation to not let people or circumstances define who you are. My only competition is the person I was yesterday. I’ve been patient and very appreciative of this platform and now its time to show what I’m capable of.”

West 1996, Pt. 2 is out now on iTunes.

PARTYNEXTDOOR made the surprise announcement on Thursday (Sept. 28) of his plans to drop a new 7-track EP entitled Seven Days. Hours later, the project officially released everywhere, with contributions by Halsey, T-Minus, Murda Beatz, Frank Dukes and Cardiak. One standout off PND’s latest collection of music is a song “Better Man,” featuring MMG’s Ricky Rozay. Produced by G. Ry and Prep Bijan, the mid-tempo song finds the OVO Sound crooner asking an unknown woman what he can do to be a better lover.

It seems like breakin’ your heart is the easiest part/ And lovin’ you right, only gets harder,” sings PARTY on the song’s chorus. MMG’s biggest boss later closes the record with a flashy guest verse, rapping about sexual moments while still enjoying the bachelor life and finer things.
