Troy Ave was released from hospital on Monday afternoon (May 30), a week after being involved in a shooting at T.I.’s concert at NYC’s Irving Plaza where one person died and 3 were injured. The Brooklyn rapper, whose real name is Roland Collins, was in hospital recovering after shooting himself in the leg during the during the chaos.

After being released from the hospital, Troy Ave was seen handcuffed to a wheelchair as he entered a Manhattan criminal court. The rapper pleaded not guilty and was held without bail until his next court date on June 9. Scott Lemon, Troy Ave’s lawyer, tells the NY Daily News that his client was the victim during the incident.

“What really happened here is Mr. Collins here is the real victim. The person who was killed at this event, he died a hero. He (McPhatter) was his bodyguard. He wasn’t shot by Mr. Collins. He was a lifelong friend. This 11 seconds of video that the NYPD released, it doesn’t say what happened before, it doesn’t say what happened after. The scientific evidence will show he didn’t shoot himself. This was another rush to judgement. In this case he’s the victim and should be treated like the victim. “
