The rowdy Queens crew Onyx invaded the HOT97 studio this week to chop it up with Cipha Sounds and Peter Rosenberg. Leading the convo, Stickty Fingaz and Fredro Starr discuss how they tranformed from street kids to top barbers in nyc to rappers. When Queens needed some goons, these guys came calling.
Peter Says:Fredro Starr and Sticky Fingaz talk about the original Onyx origins (all the way back to the Profile Records days), Red Alert fronting on them, their chance meeting with Jam Master Jay that changed their lives, stepping to The Fat Boys over a sample clearance, Fredro Star being a legendary barber, and how they were originally gunning for Das Efx’s spot.

Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy was showered with praise when it was released in 2010, and is still considered by many as the man’s magnum opus. Even four years later, the album continues to rack up accolades as it tops GQ‘s list of “The 21 Albums From the 21st Century Every Man Should Hear.” OutKast’s Stankonia, Frank Ocean’s channel ORANGE and Jay Z’s The Blueprint also appear in the list, but here’s why Ye’s fifth LP ranks at No. 1:
BECAUSE: It could’ve been any one of the seven albums West released this century, as fascinating a catalog of celebrity, triumph, love, loss, terrible puns, pretty decent puns, that was ever fucking put together by a single artist. MBDTF was just the record where he talked about all those things at once—a portrait of a man seizing the spotlight, drowning in it, and then somehow finding a way to turn that harrowing experience into art. Anybody who wants to be famous or make music for a living—or do both at the same time—should be forced to listen to MBDTF first. The rest of us are free to enjoy it for the bloody, hard-won, titanic achievement that it is.
Check out the full list here, and be sure to read GQ‘s cover story on Mr. West, in which he talks about Drake, his new album and finally finding happiness.

Jamie Foxx has reportedly landed another huge role to play Mike Tyson in an untitled biopic. According to insiders, Terence Winter will write the script while Rick Yorn, Foxx’s manager, will produce the movie.
In a past interview, Tyson said:
“Listen, me and Jamie Foxx are in discussions and within a year or 18 months we’re going to do the Mike Tyson Story,” the former fighter said when asked where he’d like to go with his film and television career next.
“I think that Martin Scorsese is going to be involved in it as well,” Tyson said. “I’m never going to watch the movie of course because…Or I’ll probably watch it alone,” he added, noting how challenging it would be to relive one’s mistakes onscreen.

Only something really major could inspire Nicki Minaj to delay the debut of her new single “Anaconda“…especially after driving her male fans into cold showers with that much-debated thong pose…but just as Nicki hinted on twitter, she has good reason.
Our colleagues at HipHopWired hinted at the reason, so it looks like the cat is scratching it’s way out the bag…here’s what folks are buzzing about: Beyoncé and Nick Minaj have teamed up for the remix of Bey’s song “Flawless”…and to make the power collabo even more special…it’s possible that Beyoncé is spitting (not just singing) her verse.
It’s not the first time we’ve heard Bey rapping (she did it on her ode to H-Town too), and being married to one of the most famous MCs in the world has to rub off, but what if we get an actual Queen Bey x Nicki bar-for-bar duet? Curtains! Let’s hope the rumors are true.
If our sources are right, we won’t have to wait too long to hear the end result. Beyoncé and Nick Minaj, “Flawless (Remix).” Stay tuned.
