Be careful what you wish for. WWE’s “Monday Night Raw” pulled into the Verizon Center in Washington D.C. on Monday night. A well-known fan of wrestling, hometown native Wale was in attendance when a heckler noticed the rapper was taking in the event. Taking things to Twitter, the unknown male sent threats to Wale and at one point, daring him to meet during the live show. According to TMZ, what followed after was Wale finding the Twitter troll and punching him in the face.
After security broke up the scrum and escorted both parties backstage, Wale would later return to watch the fights in the ring.
Update: The video that has surfaced does show Wale getting involved in a brief physical altercation but the severity of doesn’t seem like a “beat down” or even a full punch that connected.

Spring is here, and Wale shines some light on the official remix to “Sunshine.” Originally off last year’s The Gifted album, the D.C. rapper gives the soulful cut an upgrade with guest appearances from Rick Ross and Common. Putting the geechi raps to the side, Rozay steps into reflective mode touching listeners with an optimistic verse people with day-to-day struggles can attest to. Common adds a perspective from the harsh street life, before Wale closes out the uplifting cut.

Following the announcement of their collaborative Broken Ankles EP last week, Girl Talk and Freeway debut the first release in “Tolerated.” An unlikely pairing, the sample-based producer and Philly street rapper grab Waka Flocka Flame for their chaotic video, where the two knockout haters and any mayhem that falls in their path.
Broken Ankles is available for pre-order on iTunes before its April 8 release. Purchase “Tolerated” on iTunes, and watch the hilarious Allen Cordell-directed video below.

Ahead of tomorrow’s release of their new album, The Infamous Mobb Deep, Mobb Deep chopped it up with Hot 97’s Peter Rosenberg on Real Late. Havoc and Prodigy revisited their high profile beef in 2012 and explained that it was simply social media amplifying what was just another regular spat between the two (who assure us are now cool). They also discussed their soon-arriving LP, the unreleased “Eye For an Eye” remix featuring Ghostface Killah (which appears on the bonus disc) and a possible anniversary reissue for their third album, Hell On Earth.

Chuck Inglish has plenty of people riding shotgun on his upcoming Convertibles album. We’ve already heard his joints with Sir Michael Rocks, Chance The Rapper, Vic Mensa, Chromeo, Mac Miller and Ab-Soul, and now Action Bronson hops in the passenger seat on “Gametime.” Backed by throwback production, Chuck and Bam Bam steady cruise on this made-for-the-whip banger. Convertibles arrives April 8, but it’s available to iTunes now.

With “NaNa” continuing to climb the Hot 100 (not to mention steam up your laptop screens), Trey Songz returns with the second sample of his upcoming album, Trigga. “Smart Phones” is a seriously sensual slow jam, that’s for sure, but it’s not exactly the generation-defining puppy love anthem that Soulja Boy’s “Kiss Me Thru the Phone” was (don’t even front). I mean, there’s not a single mention of “DM” in this song. Tut tut. JR Smith would be disappointed, Trigga.

It’s hard to comprehend now, but there was time when OutKast weren’t the universally beloved group they are today. As a ’90s baby, I still can’t wrap my head around the idea of Andre 3000 and Big Boi receiving anything less than a standing ovation, let alone being booed, at The Source Awards in 1995. New York rap elitism stood firm, and these ATLiens were too “out there” for many fans and industry gatekeepers (which is funny, because almost 20 years later, this same narrative is still very much prevalent).
With ‘Kast set to reunite for over 40 festival dates this year, Redditor Matthew Daniels decided to translate the duo’s impact, influence and evolution into charts, graphs and numbers, and the results are pretty revealing. Like, how the terms “skeet,” “crunk” and “playa” were only used scarcely (somewhat) in rap records prior to Southernplayalisticadillacmusik and ATLiens.
Daniels also tracked 3 Stacks and Big Boi’s respective changes as artists, what factors may have contributed to their evolution, and how hip-hop’s — and mainstream music’s — attitude to OutKast changed significantly over time. If you want more shamelessly nerdy insight into hip-hop slang and culture, check out Matthew’s “The Etymology of Shorty In Hip-Hop.”

Beyonce debuted her “Grown Woman” music video just a few days after dropping her self-titled album out of the sky. Now, better late than never, an alternate version of the video has hit the net from out of the blue. What’s different? A whole lot of cool cartoon animation, like placing Mrs. Carter in a full black-and-white jungle surrounded by lions and leapords. Don’t worry, though; young Bey still gets her show-stealing cameo.
