September 2012

It was reported and confirmed, now TMZ comes through with backstage footage from Rick Ross and Young Jeezy’s skirmish at the 2012 BET Hip-Hop Awards taping in Atlanta on Saturday night. While Jeezy’s not in the clip, and no fists are thrown, security stands in the middle of both camps as people shove and in one case shatters a mirror. According to the title, viewers should be watching some sort of fight, clearly that’s not the case here. Cameos from DJ Drama and DJ Khaled.

There were two separate incidents of “aggression” at Saturday night’s taping of the BET Hip Hop Awards in Atlanta. There was the altercation between Rick Ross and Young Jeezy (read more here), and then there was the Gunplay fight….While 50 Cent was onstage making peace with Fat Joe in honor of the late Chris Lighty, the G-Unit and MMG crews have definitely not mended their beef from the days of Pimpin’ Curly and Tia Kemp. Sources tell me that when Gunplay (of Ross’ MMG camp) walked alone through the corridor of trailers by a group of G-Unit associates, including Kidd Kidd, Mike Knox, Tony Yayo and more….he was jumped. Someone caught the end of the brawl on camera, when Gunplay and one other person are left fighting, and a policeman ends it by pepper-spraying both of them (apparently Machine Gun Kelly was downwind from the spray as well).

Despite the drama that went down last night at the 2102 BET Hip-Hop Awards, there were also some moments of peace between the attending artists. Take Miguel and Wiz Khalifa for example. I happened to catch them passing by each other on the red carpet and had to seize the moment. They both showed each other crazy respect over the record. Miguel even deems Wiz’s remix as his favorite.

“That’s the best song I ever heard anybody sing in my entire life. His voice sound amazing on it,” Wiz explains as he stands side by side with Miguel. “You sound like.. I don’t know, like someone touched your voice, like you drank gold that morning. Keep drinking gold [laughs]. (via VIBE)

While the red carpet was hot, the stage was even hotter at this year’s BET Hip-Hop Awards. Wiz Khalifa had the honors of opening the 2012 edition and brought a few friends along in Young Jeezy and Juicy J. Meek Mill rocked to “Amen” before calling on Kirko Bangz to perform his new single “Young & Gettin’ It.” MGK repped for Bad Boy keeping true to his high-wire acts falling down from the roof of Atlanta’s Boisfeuillet Civic Center before Diddy boasted with an all-star cast of Future, French Montana and Uncle Luke.

T.I., Kendrick Lamar, and 2 Chainz kept it solo for their respective sets. But the highlight of the evening was the emotional tribute to Chris Lighty which featured a final farewell from Busta Rhymes, Missy Elliott, Q-Tip, and the truce between 50 Cent and Fat Joe. The legendary Rakim received the highest prize as he was presented with the “I Am Hip-Hop” Legend award. Tune-in when the award show aires next Tuesday at 8 p.m. EST on BET.

Unfortunately, things got ugly at this year’s BET Hip-Hop Awards. Even with the vibe being about positivity, mostly because of the much talked about Chris Lighty tribute where 50 and Fat Joe appeared together onstage, there was an altercation between Rick Ross and Young Jeezy. Multiple sources including DJ Drama and MTV have confirmed that both rappers got into a scuffle backstage. Rival crews passed each other and words were exchanged between security teams and entourages, which lead to mayhem. DJ Drama gave a breakdown what he witnessed and says both parties walked away “unscathed.”

According to our sources, Ross and Jeezy exchanged words backstage and started pushing and shoving each other. We’re told BET security and bodyguards for each of the rappers eventually separated the two. Our sources on the scene say that after the fight had been broken up, a member of Rick Ross’ entourage pulled out a gun while in the parking lot and shots were fired. It is unclear if the man was arrested. – via TMZ

Sources also say Gunplay and Tony Yayo were also involved in an altercation.
