Just days after Lil Wayne rallied a “f*ck the NBA” chant (complete with some allegations about Chris Bosh’s wife), this emerging war of words between rap and the NBA bled over into Washington D.C. last night, where Wale took exception to a few cheeky comments made by Raptors TV announcer Matt Devlin.

Sitting courtside for the Raptors-Wizards game, the MMG rapper was apparently talking trash to the visiting team’s new forward, Rudy Gay. Picking up on the exchange, Devlin — out of comical slander or pure ignorance — introduced the MC to the viewers at home as “local rapper Wall-Aye” and asked if anyone on Twitter had “ever heard of Wall-Aye.” Adding insult to injury, Devlin then remarked, “He’s not Drake, that’s for sure.” (Ether!)

Overhearing Devlin’s comments, Wale tweeted to him directly “watch ur mouth” and shortly after approached the announcers’ table and interrupted the commentary. Hey, at least he didn’t get called will.i.am.

Ever since Baauer’s catchy electronic dance tune “Harlem Shake” turned into this insane do-it-yourself phenomenon, there have been 4000 versions of the video uploaded every day. Four Thousand! All following the same formula…intro music with one guy pelvic thrusting while the rest of the room ignores him, then when the beat drops, cut to a chaotic scene where everyone is dancing and raving. And done. Youtube views smorgasbord! There’s a Firefighter Harlem Shake, and a Today Show Harlem Shake, and countless college Harlem Shakes, office Harlem Shakes, porn star Harlem Shakes, even the Hot97 in-studio Harlem Shake

You know the only thing missing from the Harlem Shake videos? Actual Harlem Shaking.
Oh yeah…remember that little wobbly dance craze that was all the rage in the early 2000′s when it appeared in various Bad Boy music videos? One of the few dance fads that was best done by kids under the age of 16. Something about loose connective tissue perhaps.

Well, the Baauer song and viral meme is not about that Harlem dance. Sorry G.Dep.
And when Shlepp Films went to Harlem to see if the streets are “con los terroristas” with the rest of the “Harlem Shake” fanatics….the answer was a big fat no.

“They look like they smoked some dust…”

Well…actually, lol.
To be fair…I’m pretty sure there are more kids in Harlem dancing around in spirit hoods and “air humping” to the EDM “Harlem Shake” than there are kids doing the Harlem “Harlem Shake” in 2013…but it would be great to see someone tackle a hybrid-homage video to both past and present dance crazes. DO IT!

Until then….Let’s compare the Porn Star “Harlem Shake” to the Bad Boy “Harlem Shake”…

2012 NBA All Star Game

After Weezy’s epic “F*ck the NBA and F*ck the Miami Heat” rant made headlines yesterday, the league now claims Wayne is not really banned from NBA events. According to TMZ, NBA Senior Director of Basketball Communications Mark Broussard told them there’s “no truth at all” to Wayne’s statements about being banned. We’re not sure what is really going on here, but somebody is going to be apologizing when it’s all said and done.

It was a monumental night for the Bravo network as A$AP Rocky and Danny Brown made their long awaited appearance on the Kathy Griffin’s show. Their viral video where they go in about wanting to knock boots with Kathy spawned it all. Sitting on the couch with other guest Russell Brand made it even more random and hilarious. There were moments where Danny had to explain the Molly craze which left the audience members in a bit of confusion, and of course a whole lot of talk about their infatuation with the redheaded host. Before it was all said and done, both rappers were given a shot to get lucky with Kathy during a game of x-rated dice. Rocky got a face-full of boobs, while Danny went home with a kiss.

action bronson 48 hours

A standard interview with Action Bronson is funny enough, so you know a full 48 hours with the guy is going to be pretty hilarious. Noisey did just that back in December, when they followed the stocky Queens MC around for two days during his stop in London on the European leg of his tour. Highlights include Bam Bam going “trainer” shopping, jumping into the crowd at the Highbury Garage, out-smoking Tim Westwood and letting a fan get on the mic at his show at the Candy Store. It’s clear the U.K. has got love for Bronson.

justin-bieber-snl

We won’t see Justin Bieber at tonight’s Grammys, but that didn’t stop the pop star from taking over Saturday Night Live this weekend. Bieber served double-duty as host and musical guest last night live from 30 Rock. Along with performing stripped down versions of “As Long As You Love Me” and the bonus “Nothing Like Us” (with guitarist Dan Kanter), off his chart-topping Believe acoustic album, the teen sensation starred in a few skits.

In one skit titled “The Miley Cyrus Show: Fan Club,” Justin addressed this photo that shows him holding a blunt. The report, broken by TMZ caused plenty of backlash as many feel smoking marijuana tarnishes the 18-year-old pop star’s clean image. “I also heard he got busted for smoking weed and he’s really sorry for it, and that people make mistakes and he’s never gonna do it again,” says Bieber while in costume.

After recruiting Azealia Banks for his Fall 2012 T campaign, fashion designer Alexander Wang has enlisted another of Harlem’s most famous faces, A$AP Rocky, for his new Spring 2013 T ad. The rapper gets his acting on (kind of) by shopping in a Wang store, only to be harassed by new employee, comedienne Bon Qui Qui. He isn’t her only victim, though. She also irks supermodel Alessandra Ambrosio, pregnant model Shannon Click and Barneys’ creative ambassador-at-large Simon Doonan.

A$AP Rocky also gets camera time in Noisey’s new web series, Noisey Raps. The premiere episode goes behind the scenes of Rocky’s recent Long Live A$AP tour, and features appearances from ScHoolboy Q, Danny Brown, Action Bronson, A-Trak, Flatbush Zombies and The Underachievers.

Emojis express the human condition… but there just aren’t enough of those tiny graphics to match the emotional range of our shady little hearts. So our buddies at Complex created “15 Emojis We Wish Existed,” to help say what cannot be said with pedestrian words. You just flipped a pair of kicks for a couple stacks? Hit your lesser-than friends with The Birdman Handrub emoji. Your boy questions your generous dating standards? The Kanye Shrug emoji. And the Swiss Army Knife of all emojis? (Camron, standing, at the Violator offices with Chris Lighty, Mike Lighty, and Eric Nicks, all seated…shopping his “new” artist, Juelz Santana)

Noreaga and his longtime friend Geno Sims collected a treasure trove of hip hop footage back in the late 90′s for a documentary show they called The What What. And in this newly unearthed trailer, there is literally too much to comprehend. There’s random bits of Big Pun, KRS One, Eminem making crank calls, Snoop Dogg at his most misogynistic, a chubby 50 Cent coveting NORE’s then-new Skytel 2-way pager…There’s Jay-Z and Amil, Capone in prison, De La Soul….and at the 2:25 mark, we see Cam’ron shopping his new 17-year-old artist Juelz Santana to Chris Lighty (RIP) and his staff. Amazing.

Now these days Geno is better known as one of ASAP Rocky’s managers, alongside Chace Infinite (another man with an long hip hop curriculum vitae), but I’ve known Geno since way back during his days at Harlem Music Hut, Bad Boy Records and more…So I’m really proud to see all his success! But no matter how busy you and NORE are, Geno….please gather more of this vintage What What footage and put this out!
