crony-ism

Mikey: Dame Dash recently sat down with MixtapeMonster and gave more details about what  he felt went wrong with the Rocafella empire. He explains how he “spoiled” his artists, and his disappointment with the brand today, also breaking down his relationships and views on everyone from Kanye, Beans, Jay, Jimmy, and Cam. Obviously, there was alot of editing here, but Dame seems surprisingly honest about his true feelings and past dealings with his former/current peers. (props to MixtapeMonster via RR)

“I’m very dissapointed in where Rocafella went… the brand is compromised I never that that could ever happen where the brand is just not relevelant… Lyor is a funny dude… he’s a mastermind, brilliant and not scared… but I think his influence broke up Rocafella.”

eminem

“Eminem x Shady Talez. We have just learned that Eminem is confirmed to star in a 3D horror movie called Shady Talez. It will be the first starring role for Eminem since 8 Mile. We also got the drop that the production, writer and plot are all confirmed. The movie was actually an idea brought up Violator Management (Chris Lighty and Mona Scott) early last year but Eminem was not attached at the time. Since then, Eminem has been brought on board and will actually play multiple roles throughout the movie which will be distributed in 3D.”

bun b, eskay, missinfo

(ah HA! Like parallel universes colliding via a frozen donkey wheel, these 2 doppelgangers Bun B and Eskay meet on “the Island.”….and by “the Island” I mean, on the island of Manhattan, lol. This was taken at Drake’s SOBs show. Ok, for the record, No. I am not trying to lick Eskay’s sweatshirt. I’m just really awkward in photos and sometimes try to offset my awkwardness by being goofy. Also, my eyebrows look too thin here. Anyhoo…)

Robbie Ettelson and folks at UnKut did a fantastic 2-part Q&A with Nahright’s big tuna Eskay…I think that, along with the interesting backstory on Eskay’s life (Yonkers, his graff days, his early career, and his time at XXL.com), what’s most interesting to see Eskay’s personality in print. Because it helps explain why the Nahright aesthetic is what it is…a no-nonsense, telling-not-selling, music-first, pandering-last, catch-all for hip hop culture.

Make sure you read the Unkut feature part 1 and part 2, but here are some excerpts:

(On “crabs in the barrel” blog beefing….)

What can you do? When you reach a certain point or level of success I think that just comes with the territory. I think a lot of that shit is misguided though….I’m definitely not one of these bloggers who feels he needs to talk shit – miscellaneous shit – and call people out for no reason to get attention or get traffic. I’m not with that ’shock blogging’ shit. I may say something crazy that you may take as a ’shock blogging’ tactic, but it’s really not. I really mean it.

(On the focus of Nahright as a place for the critical music fan…)

There’s something to be said for just giving people music and letting them form their own opinion about it….

(Jay Electronica “Exhibit C”)

Mikey: Sure, Jay Electronica is a dope emcee, but tonight I also learned that he’s joker and a talker… and a drinker lol. With Jack D in hand, Jay took the stage for the Red Bull “Live From Somewhere” show at Santos in NYC to perform for his hardcore blog-built fan base…. Jay E brought out fellow New Orleans native Curren$y and the legendary Pete Rock, and also called out his famous homies (he tried to charge everyone’s bar tab to Paul Rosenberg, and stuck up for Dame Dash, who was being heckled). But besides all the drunken banter, Jay E. spit freestyles, rocked “Google Eyes”, and, of course, “Exhibit C” (which was restarted 4 times because of sound difficulties).

Well, this is interesting….50 Cent was on the HotBoyz show in Philly just a few hours ago, and, lo and behold, Beanie Sigel came up and joined the interview. I hear there’s video of the moment on the way, but for now, listen to the audio from the broadcast…(thanks to Dre/NR for the speedy link) (UPDATE 1: full audio added, from HotBoyz via Dre)

50 Cent and Beanie Sigel on the Hot Boys show

Beanie addresses the issue of his 2 Bentleys (which Jay-Z mentioned in his comment to Goofy in Montreal), and elaborates on his claim that Jay-Z didn’t co-sign him in court. All the while, 50 Cent is there, facilitating the conversation in his own way. Interesting, yes? Strategic? What do you guys think?

UPDATE 2: This also just got interesting, and surprising to me, when DJ/Producer Don Cannon went on a twitter spree, voicing his opinion on the ongoing Beanie/Jay-Z saga, as well as the fallout.…Read some of his tweets after the jump…

Mikey: It’s story time time with Its The Real, so grab a seat by the sandbox and listen up, “The Moral of the story it seems to Beans, sometimes the Roc is all its cracked up to be. Beans should try the view from where Bleek sits, don’t let a money sandbox turn into a money pit.”

Miss Info: My fave line is “While sitting and waiting, Beans tries not to hassle, but then beans wants to play like he built Jay’s castle. Jay’s face says we friends, but not friends like that…”

But the best part is the detail….Freeway’s beard and Kanye’s hair rule! But who’s that girl behind the fence?

Stretch Gots a Story to Tell from Gasface on Vimeo.

I love that my friends from Gasface TV (Lyons, France) just happened to bump into DJ Stretch Armstrong while walking down Broadway and 116th st….right by Stretch and Bobbito’s old stomping ground (lol, and mine).
Stretch tells them about all the rappers who came through those WKCR Eighty-Nine-Tech-Nine….good times.

ooo. Rik Cordero/Three21Media and BoBo are doing a 3 part trailer series to promote the upcoming Wu-triumvirate Raekwon x Ghostface x Method Man project! Awesome!
And for Part 1, Rik takes cue from that scary David Fincher masterpiece, “Seven.”

Blood. Gore. Mood lighting. Yay!

(photos of Shyne at the Belize City youth hostel…talking to residents and staff)

According to media outlets in Belize, Shyne arrived in Belize City airport on Weds afternoon…and here are some details…After leaving the airport, Shyne went straight to talk to kids at the Princess Royal Youth Hostel…and talked to the residents about some of  his past transgressions. Meanwhile, Channel Five Belize documented Shyne’s reunion with his family, as well as his immediate plan, and why he’s renting out a whole floor at the Radisson….

Shyne emerged from the plane in a Harvard Law School sweat shirt and a pair of headphones around his neck. The rapper sported a full head of parted hair. He was hugged first by his godmother then his manager and others including one of his attorneys, Oscar Michelin, followed by Pulu Lightburn. Emerging to meet him at the stairs of the VIP room was his mother Imeon Myvette. She escorted him inside for the processing of his freedom on Belizean soil. After greeting with his father in the privacy of V.I.P. area, Shyne’s uncle, Michael Finnegan, gave the media an update on his status.

Michael Finnegan, Shyne’s Uncle
“Shyne is home. He wants to say how happy he is to be home and to be a free man. He would love to have a conversation with the media but because he was legally advised by Professor Ogletree, he must not speak to the media because he doesn’t want to prejudice his situation any at all with the US government or with the Belize government. So he asked me to ask you that he don’t want to disrespect you the media, but please to understand what is going on. You could see the tears in his eyes as they hugged and the romantic situation in there especially with his Grandmother and with his father, with his younger brother Anwar, they hugged and neva want let go one another.”

More details about Shyne’s first day back with family after the jump…. (PS: Big up to reader Eddie for the link)
