Yes, that’s Joaquin Phoenix dancing in the street…with his cellphone while face-timing. AGGH!

The new trailer for Spike Jonze’s upcoming film, Her, previews the story of a man (played by Joaquin). A very very sad and creepy man. Who signs up for a virtual assistant, much like iOS’ Siri, to help him with things like waking up, and controlling his lights, and to-do lists. But in this scenario, Siri is named Samantha, “she” has some kind of artificial intelligence, and, oh yeah, she’s got a deep throaty sexy voice because she’s played by Scarlett Johansson. LOL.

If there are men in Asia who are marrying their body pillows, and guys here in the US proposing to their nerd-boos on Reddit, then yeah…this is actually way more realistic than you’d like to admit. In fact, the only unrealistic part about this premise is that Joaquin’s character “is suffering from a recent breakup.” HA! Breakup with what? His Tamagotchi?!

In all honesty, this movie (which comes out in Nov, 2013) will probably be unwatchable. But the premise is pretty interesting. I already feel like in the age of Catfish, and selfies, and the like…the concept of “love” and “dependency” and “obsessiveness” and “immediacy” is making for some very twisted non-traditional bedfellows.
