Terrace Martin was a key figure in the making of Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly, not least for his production on the album, but for putting K. Dot on to John Coltrane’s A Love Supreme and subsequently sparking his love for jazz, which clearly shaped his sophomore opus for the better. The Pharrell and Sounwave-produced “Alright” may be the least jazziest and most popular cut on TPAB, but thanks to Terrace’s skilled sax playing and soothing synths, the 2015 anthem of black resilience gets reimagined as “Alright (II).”

“This song speaks for the world,” he told The FADER. “It’s pure love being poured out from a place of hope and faith. I wanted to do this remix as my part to continue to push the message of love and to celebrate change! My only goal with all my music is to help and spread good vibes. I’m just happy we are helping to push a positive energy around the world.”
