New Music: RZA x Interpol’s Paul Banks Feat. Ghostface Killah “Love + War”

Three years after announcing their plan to make an album together, Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA and Interpol’s Paul Banks have finally launched their collaborative side project, Banks & Steelz. Clever name, you’re thinking, but what the hell will a RZA and Paul Banks album sound like? Well, the newly-formed duo have an answer to that question by releasing their first single, “Love + War.”
The four-minute track sandwiches a very sad robot chorus from Paul Banks between verses from Ghostface Killah and RZA, which should perk the ears of Wu-Tang heads. Musically, however, this is unlike anything we’ve heard from the Wu Gambinos. Color me curious for what the rest of the record has to offer.
Listen below…
Here’s what RZA told Rolling Stone back in 2013 about working with Paul Banks:
Me and Paul Banks from Interpol, we’re doing an album together. I love Paul. We’re been working on it for six months now. He just left my house. He came and spent two weeks at my house – I have a guesthouse in my studio. Warner Bros, they gave us a deal.
My manager came to me and said, “Who do you want to do an album with?” I said, “Well, Paul just has an energy about him. I think if we put our sandwich together it will be great.” Me and Paul, we play chess together and just hang out. We went to the studio and we started writing songs and they sound very, very different than what I do, but very unique and very peculiar.
