Rap Industry Etiquette: Before announcing that you’ve signed 50 Cent….make sure you SIGN 50 Cent
Posted by Miss Info under Exclusives , Laugh At , Lightbulb , Quotes , Ugh , Videos[35] Comments
In an interview with Pyramid West (posted after the jump), Craig Davis, urban promotions director at Capitol Records, runs down his entire career biography….but then he gets to more current topics, and says that 50 Cent is now signed to Capitol/EMI along with Lloyd Banks.
“We got a really great roster…we just signed the 50 Cent deal over [at Capitol]….50 felt he needed to get out of the Interscope machine. He wanted to do a new change. So he got his release from there. We’re in negotiations with him, the deal just got signed very recently…and um, we got 50 Cent on our label. I think we’re gonna probably have Lloyd Banks as the first cut, and then 50’s gonna come out later on….”
Wow, Craig Davis! This is big news! Except….that it’s not true.
When I asked an insider if 50 Cent was now on Capitol/EMI….the answer was: “Hell no.“
Well, damn *GucciMane voice*
Now we all know that Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo are indie right now, but as far as the big guy is concerned, he’s still fully in contract with Shady/Aftermath/Interscope, and still has a greatest hits album to release. But even beyond that…sources say he was not in talks to sign to Capitol himself.
This moment is better represented in song…

Columbia? The record label that dropped 50 before Power of the Dollar released/after the shooting? If it were true, I’d like to see 50 spin it in a way where he still has his pride.
Also, regarding the part of “50 not being happy with Interscope”: what would be the difference if he was happy with his label? Would that give him the means to create a different (better) record?
July 1st, 2010 at 3:48 pm
……Ron Browz needs to thank you for indirect shout out. I would have bet money that he’d never be mentioned on here again post D.O.A.
July 1st, 2010 at 3:54 pm
I would like to see 50 cent @ the new “Sha money’s Def Jam”. Despite his quarrel with Ricky, Def Jam has the means to make you a winner. Or atleast make every one think you are …
July 1st, 2010 at 3:59 pm
50 loves playing chess , and one of his main pieces is VP @ defjam it only makes sense for the king and his men to follow suit.. Funny story about a year ago 50 actually said he was going to sign with defjam and have LA Reid move pieces around
July 1st, 2010 at 4:09 pm
That’s awful. How can anyone claim to have signed someone when they know full well that they didn’t even talk to that person?
July 1st, 2010 at 4:24 pm
when i heard 50 signed to capitol i couldnt help but think back to when he made fun of camron for being signed to Koch records. 50 said Koch was a graveyard with older acts nobody else would sign, now looking at Capitol record rosta (no disrespect to the lineup) but, they are nothing to brag about. def a step back for 50 as far as public perception goes. but at the end of the day, if they cut the check “why not”? i think it wil be hard for 50 to get a deal now because his last album sold less than rick ross first week, no label is going to give him the signing money he wants for low sales numbers like that
July 1st, 2010 at 4:30 pm
LMAO jump gwan just jump out that window!
July 1st, 2010 at 5:47 pm
Singing ass nigga. 50 cent will never go there, 50 make real hip-hop, yall niggaz dont. it will be a shame if 50 go there, that will mean Hip-Hop/Rap is really dead.
July 1st, 2010 at 6:41 pm

50fans were worried 4 a sec

Wait Capital record is still in the game? …what they thing this is the NBA FREE AGENCY …And who in their right mind would make such a premature announcement anyway? College??? I wonder where he got his degree from; I’m sure a cereal box… Craig Davis you in deep dudu sonn….Somebody is losing their Job in that building. And let’s be honest who can name me one successful MC on that Label? And please don’t say Snoop Dog, the dude is washed up, he the RAP version of Shaq, ain’t nobody checking for him no more. And Notice he name dropping all these Artist/Groups he supposedly put on, but we never heard of them till he stopped fuckin w/ them …LOL Craig Davis …damn sonn I Thought LA REID was a wack exct…this hear making LA Reid mess (giving Shyne all that money and he ain’t hear him freestyle not even once) look like a power move
July 1st, 2010 at 7:04 pm
@ Terrance you do know that 50 sold more with that weak ass album than Ross did don’t you. I mean you can’t talk numbers when one guy has done more with one record than another in his whole music career. And I’m talking about The Massacre. The album after Get Rich or Die Trying. Only four rappers out in the mainstream can talk money and numbers when speaking on 50 and Rick isn’t on that list. You can google who those other artist are if you need too. It should not take long. LOL Just saying the distain for this guy is getting a little out dated at this point. I’m a little surpised he hasn’t made the fact that nobody in this country likes him a trending topic. I’m sure he doesn’t cry to sleep about it but it would be cool to see a twitter day based all on him not being what he once was here. From what I understand that site is a forum were you can blast a person all day as if it were a main event. Make it a running joke for him and his fans plus the ditractors to see how many people hate you. It might make him perform better in the studio. He always seems to shine with his back agaist the wall. Missinfo run that by him the next you get a chance to speak with him. Also tell him the day of the grimmy New York beat is not popping as of right now time to switch up the sound. You can spit the same things just make it a bigger song. Don’t limit yourself by trying to prove a point to the masses. WE ALL KNOW WE HAVE BECOME MORE FOR LACK OF A STRONGER TERM….. GAY FRIENDLY WITH THE MUSIC OF TODAY….

@ that last line…..WOW!!!!
July 1st, 2010 at 8:24 pm

July 1st, 2010 at 9:04 pm
Well done…..
July 1st, 2010 at 9:19 pm
Shanetron….you are a fuckin idiot….it was Capitol…not Columbia….even if it’s not true, you are still in illiterate bastard.
July 1st, 2010 at 9:26 pm
i think 50 thrived off being hated
me being from new york i remember 50 was being blackballed from the industry back in 2000 n niggas wanted to take his dead off in the streets
so when he got his spot his mentality was its me n my team against the whole industry
then he started beefing wit rappers associated wit ja rule
the beefing is what fucked up his large us fanbase him n game fan base split in half
n i didnt like his last album at all
anyway i c every rapper as one hit record away from being in everybodys good graces
July 1st, 2010 at 9:36 pm
Columbia or Capitol?
Even if it was Columbia there is no need to spin shiit if they came back to the table with a deal its a deal…Where the fuck is your head at??
As to your dumbass question well lets see if he was somewhere else maybe his albums would not be pushed back 5 times and leaked a month early or maybe his videos wouldnt be leaked before they are ready… Oor maybe his aritst can get a release date and a strong push without being pushed back…

I look at comments a lot without writing anything. But that’s getting annnoying, sooo…..
This is my impression of today’s rap “fan”.
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!
Stop crying u bitches.
Everyday. A bunch of whining. The problem with hip hop today is that the fans suck. Not the artists. Not the rappers. The fans.
You don’t know enough about the music or the culture that you spend all day on the internet complaining about. And u are waaaaay to egotistical about your own overblown opinions. And you secretly think, wish, or hope that Drake, Eminem, Jay Z, Lil Wayne or whatever rapper you are on here talking about is actually reading what you write because you are sad, lonely individuals with no life that have nothing else better to do. You don’t buy albums and complain about record sales. You waste your time cheerleading for rappers who could give two shits about you, and act as if you know these dudes personally. You act like hip hop historians and don’t even remember what happened 5 years ago because you smoke too much weed. I wish half of you would just stop listening to hip hop because you’re not real fans anyway. You’re a bunch of posers that just want to be cool or feel like you’re part of something. Go listen to country music or shut the fuck up. Please? You’re making hip hop look bad. Waaaay more than Soldier Boy or anyone else you want to blame it on. It’s not them. It’s you.
July 1st, 2010 at 10:01 pm
Well anything is better than interscope and thats just keeping it real…. I hope he negotiates in his new deal some kind of advance penality for release dates being moved meaning they eat 50-100 grand of whatever they put out to push the album every time the date is changed…
Since the day 50’s third album sold well and he was talking about wanting 100mill to resign interscope started tanking his release dates causing him to have to release 5 singles for an album to keep the buzz going because the album was pushed back, not pushing his artist and pushing their albums back a full year, leaking videos and his last album a full month before its release… Not to mention no loyalty from Ivoine or Dre who used him to give Game a presence and after he handed Game half his first album they shit on 50 and now Dre producing the next Game record, WUH!!! And Em cant go to a 50 concert in Detroit for 20min WHILE HE’S HOME IN DETROIT because he cant be seen standing next to 50 but it was cool when 50 was doing his dirty work for years!!And now he can Pal around with and do concerts with the biggest fraud in music Jay-Z!!
They have made it clear that they dont want 50 by doing exactly what they are doing so 50 needs to just move on!!! BOUNCE and rebuild….
Miss Info what other rappers are on Capitol/EMI?

July 2nd, 2010 at 8:52 am
My personal opinion I think 50 is done.. He made the g-unit brand but they also made him.. Game brought him a west coast fanbase buck brought the south.. without that he cut his shit in half.. cause unlike us new york folks these other places stick up for one another.. banks ain’t never gonna be the same banks of old.. yayo please.. his best moment is when people was screaming free yayo.. 50 is in the same pattern of music.. he wanna diss everyone.. instead of using everyone for they fanbase like jay-z does.. Hov is the king at milkiing folks for their fanbase.. that’s why he while always be good and around..

July 2nd, 2010 at 10:45 am
I agree with all that you said except for the 50’s done and Banks will never be the Bansk of old. I think that Banks proved that you are one hit away. He was nobody until that BBB joint dropped. If 50 drop another “In Da Club” or “I Get Money” it’ll be poppin all over again.
July 2nd, 2010 at 11:03 am
U mean Kissing a$$ like everyone else does?
50 would rather go the way of the Dinosaurs then to resort to that kind of F*ckery to remain relevant
Its just Fickle Sub Humans or as i like to call them the “Electronic Herd” that runs with whatever is hot at the moment
LOL @ anyone thinking 50 would ac tually sign with Capitol/EMI and Lol at the Exec who threw himself in front of bus lol

Funny. I posted this same quote on hiphopdx and got cursed out by exactly who I’m talking about. And we need to fire some teachers because a lot of these kids are just plain ignorant and can’t spell.
July 4th, 2010 at 1:35 pm
this is all nonsense. Does this relly matter to all the working people in the world that will never be able to even see, money like these men, this is garbage, these rappers are already rich, all of them so you small time people should all shut the fuck up and just get your money up and let them do the music thing! who cares about the gossip, its all bullshit and the poor is still poor and the rich will get richer thanks to the poor! Everybody cant sell there souls to the devil now can they??????
