The Underachievers have been bubbling in New York’s thriving underground scene for a minute now, and are poised to make a real impact this year. The duo, comprised of MCs Issa Dash and Ak, saw semi-viral success last year with a handful of fresh and captivating visual releases, including “Herb Shuttles,” “Gold Soul Theory” and “So Devilish“—all of which helped them land a record deal with Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder label.
Now the pair are prepping their debut mixtape, Indigoism, for a release this Friday (Feb. 1)—and just in case you need another reason to get excited, here’s the video for the smokey, Billy Cobham-sampling “The Mahdi.” British filmmaker Luke Monaghan directs, and uses plenty of slick, slow-mo shots to capture the collected confidence of the young upstarts to a sunny Californian backdrop. This makes us wish it was Summer already.
