Nicki Minaj Returns With Her Party Anthem, “Starships” (New Music)
Posted by Mr.North under New Music[44] Comments
Nicki Minaj wants to get us on the dance floor and let loose with her brand new offering, “Starships.” The new single off her sophomore album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, is more dance friendly and fun compared to “Roman Holiday”, debuted at Sunday’s Grammys. During her post-Grammys interview with Ryan Seacrest, she raved about the song calling it one of her favorites off the new LP arriving April 3rd.
It feels right. It just feels good. It makes people feel happy and that’s all I want. I want to start the year off with making people feel good. The [Grammy] performance was the performance, that was my clear craziness, and now it’s time to make people dance and have fun, and that’s all I want to do.”

Very generic. It’s on par with LMFAO or some Albanian dance act.

Just when u thought it couldnt get any worse.

“Did Nicki Minaj redeem herself following the controversy at the Grammy Awards? ” Yes. If she wants to join that Wack/White Girl Mob crew. NOT Hip-Hop, not even rap. PLEASE stop calling these pop artists emcees & rappers. REAL Lyrics/Beats/Hooks – no autotunes, no techno beats, no singing, no gimmicks…

This song will get massive radio play and club love.
Nicki ain’t goin’ nowhere.
Oh, and I dig it. Then again, I like mindless fist pump music.
February 14th, 2012 at 5:19 am
She’s seriously in Lmfao, Black eyes peas, Pitbull category and ways will be. That is saying they’re hip hop when quite clearly their generic pop garbage. Nicki will sell big with this album because of her marketing, but in 5 years will be remembered as a fad and the biggest gimmick in rap since Vanilla Ice.

Dear Onika,
I know you’ve become successful with your new direction, but PUH-LEEZ stop this insanity. What happened to Nicki Maraj from the mixtapes? Remember, when you use to spit hot 16s? The streets were so supportive of your efforts. You had hood love and people were cheering for you to make it happen…
Now, you put out bricks that aren’t building anything but bullsh*t. All these Greenwich Village theme songs and runaway backdrops are NOT hot. PUH-LEEZ go back and listen to those mixtapes and stop listening to your hairdresser and stylist. Oh and watch that tattooed dude that looks like a gremlin and the unibrow bomber, these dudes DO NOT have your best interest at heart.
Oh, almost forgot – PUH-LEEZ stop setting a terrible example for little Black, Brown, Red and Yellow girls with those damn blond weaves – You’re NOT a white woman. Deal with that! Go to counseling, listen to a Les Brown motivational CD or whatever it takes…just deal with that!!
Sincerely,
Someone who once gave a f*ck!!!

Nicki…Ummmmm shouldn’t u have performed this song at the Grammy’s? I can understand why it wasn’t .They had artist performing this kind of music ..it would’ve been over kill.. no press is bad press but I’m still praying for her to have a healthy career ..I’ll give this mindless fist pump track a pass…if you don’t like to fist pump you not living right….however will not be being the album becos i have a slight feeling ill be skipping plenty of songs. It’s safe to say the female mainstream mc is still out there somewhere….and Nicki left the hip hop genre for that euro dance paper..that’s cool just don’t call urself hip hop plz.
February 14th, 2012 at 9:30 am
Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t this a blog for HipHop/some RnB ?
In which case I don’t know why this dance music gets posted here.
February 14th, 2012 at 9:54 am
Yeh this is LMFAO kinda music.. Just generic pop crap. I give up on Nicki at this point.. She is never gonna do anything really Hip Hop on her own, like she can be featured on a Hip Hop track but she has abandoned Hip Hop for white ppl and pop music. I guess she is going where she believes the money is but at the expense of alienating her Hip Hop fanbase completely, I dunno how good that is for her or us, the fans.
February 14th, 2012 at 10:01 am
*sigh*
nicki is dead to me. this is not hiphop. on another notem she shouldve did this song on the grammys, the pop people wouldve ate this up .
February 14th, 2012 at 10:24 am
don’t say that around these parts. Miss Info and others will accuse you of not being ‘open-minded’. They’ll say you’re stuck in ’87 or whatever time period. essentially, they’ll support the bullshit when they know otherwise.
February 14th, 2012 at 10:30 am
The song is decent; it’ll get MAJOR play on the pop radio stations across the country but she’s still lacking a radio single that will get played on urban radio stations (Hot 97 & Power 105.1) and I doubt that “Stupid Hoe” & “Roman in Moscow” are garnering radio spins.
As far as redeeming herself after her Grammy performance, it all depends on who you’re asking because some people liked it and some people didn’t. Truth be told, I had mixed reviews about her performance but I do like Starships.

at the end of the day, we as hip hoppers don’t love ourselves. We don’t appreciate the special things that make us US. Hip hop culture (yes it’s a culture, not just music). That’s why you have the Nicki Minajs who come through and use ‘hip hop’ as a vehicle to sell imitation dance music and appeal to a white fanbase who could give less of a f*ck that you exist. And our industry folks who claim they love this culture go along with it because they’re afraid to speak up / want to keep making money / want the fame. You know why the audience is fickle? Because industry cats are FICKLE. They prove to us year after year that dollars are the only thing that matters, and that you shouldn’t even look for real music. Meanwhile, cats like myself who actually LOVE this hip hop shit, who bought albums for years and supported this industry are looked at like we’re crazy, like we didn’t evolve, that somehow WE don’t actually understand hip hop. lmao. Ah well. That’s what happens when you whore out the culture to the highest bidder. Enjoy your dance music and swag. It’s probably going to get a whole lot worse before it gets better.
February 14th, 2012 at 10:35 am
i will cleary have 2 say u are!! a true example of a crab! listen…the facts are u have 2 grow!!! question? would any of those mixtape songs u speak of earn her a grammy nod? would they get radio play? would they please u?

If that’s how you feel why even visit the site? I’m sure there’s a site that only post music that fits your definition of Hip hop. In hip hop there’s no sub genres, with rock there’s hard rock, easy rock, punk rock etc. With hip hop it’s you better really rap or gtfo. While I agree that this song isn’t quintessential hip hop it still evolved from hip hop and has a place here.
February 14th, 2012 at 10:36 am
“fuck who you want, fuck who you like” ..REALLY THOUGH NICKI???
February 14th, 2012 at 11:16 am
I visit this site because I feel like it. lol. why be so simple-minded? It’s like: ‘dont comment unless you’re on the bandwagon.’ It’s so f*cking dumb. People can’t be critical anymore? It’s just so lazy. Websites are great for discussing music, not just d*ckriding whatever’s hot. I visit this site out of habit. When I first discovered it, I thought: ‘wow, this is such a dope hip hop site. and it’s run by a female hip hop fan, who reviewed Illmatic (my favorite album)!’ I remember reading stuff in the archives for a straight month. Stuff I’d never seen or probably wouldn’t have seen for some reason. Interesting behind-the-scenes stuff. like when Info linked to Ghostface’s “Best of Both Offices” interview. Now I really do wonder why I come on here sometimes. Old habits die hard.

The Female Weez..FLO RIDA – even tho he’s never been lyrical
Brainwashed by David Guetta, I live in Germany and they play that David Guetta/Nicki song everywhere – It’a even the theme song for Germanys Next Topmodel with Heidi Klum. So I actually do get why she is heading that way.
But she really looks too damn white on that cover, imma have to listen to paris now, had a nice time with you nicki..
February 14th, 2012 at 12:03 pm
I tried to let your comment sit out there on fake mothafuckas hearts like a cartoon anvil…but if I don’t cosign comments true to the culture, who will??
So I applaud you; standing ovation.
February 14th, 2012 at 12:11 pm
“Some Albanian dance act”…. Ahahahahahahaha…. I’m stealin that one! Generic sounding Euro-trash is not Hip Hop… PERIOD!
February 14th, 2012 at 12:28 pm
YO WHAT YOU SAID ABOUT THE SUB GENRES PERTAINING TO ROCK & HOW ITS IMPOSSIBLE FOR PEOPLE TO ACCEPT THAT IN RAP IS ON POINT!
I MAKE THIS ARGUMENT IN THE BARBERSHOPS ALL THE TIME
February 14th, 2012 at 12:31 pm
I like this shit. I’m not even a nicki fan. But this shit is hot. Like I said on another post, I like when she does songs like this.
February 14th, 2012 at 1:22 pm
LOL…You forgot Flo rida!
February 14th, 2012 at 1:27 pm
DAMN….smh…i agree!
February 14th, 2012 at 1:41 pm
@Jasperfect exactly. “In hip-hop it’s you better REALLY RAP or gtfo.” That’s what hip-hop has always represented – the REALITY of the culture. Nowadays, RAP music (I refuse to call this trash HIP-HOP), is about who can tell the biggest lies/exaggerations, who can sell out the quickest & who can sing the most on their hook. Just look at these “illest (LOL) out” right now… Lil’ Wayne/Drake/Nicki Minaj/Gucci Mane/Wakaflaka/Rick Ross… and YES, even Eminem – all FRAUDS who would’ve got MASHED ON when hip-hop was still alive in the mainstream. Honestly, look @ those names. Do you think Pac or Big would’ve cosigned ANY ONE of them? If you do, you have no clue. They’re rolling in their graves right now. EMCEEZ warned us about RAPPERS from jump. It’s a shame that the industry the legends spent decades fighting managed to obliterate HIP-HOP, for the most part, from today’s mainstream networks.
February 14th, 2012 at 2:26 pm
word
February 14th, 2012 at 3:22 pm
Your a fool if you think rappers in the 80’s and 90’s weren’t lying and only spoke about the “real”. Who gives a F about Big and Pac, it’s 2012 They died when I was in Junior high school. You can’t complete with a dead people, it’s impossible. If your that upset with the radio get a 100+gb mp3 player load it up with all the music from the 90’s and put it on shuffle.
February 14th, 2012 at 3:27 pm
@E. Geeziss you obviously do not know a lot about Hip-Hop Music at all. If you have ever studied the history of hip hop artist have used techno beats, auto-tune, singing, have you listened to Afrika Bambaattaa, Whodini, now you may be able to talk about context that its being made in, but as for that other stuff, you clearly do not know hip-hop history.
February 14th, 2012 at 3:52 pm
I said this was Euro trash yesterday.. check the post!!
I just dont know what this is…. Is this something for Brittany because this aint hip hop or rap in no way shape or form! I just dont get this…Is she a pop-act or is she a rapper? I dont mind her doing this she just needs to blend it better..
February 14th, 2012 at 3:57 pm
All of that side bullshit is what killed rock!
February 14th, 2012 at 4:13 pm
yeah rock and roll totally fell off when the foo fighters get a sweep at the grammys, mumford and sons should have gotten something lol
February 14th, 2012 at 4:49 pm
On the real nicki just needs to end her association with hip hop cause it clear she wants to be a pop star she should accept anything with hip hop in it hip hop awards she shouldn’t be on hip hop charts she shouldn’t be played on so called hip hop stations she shouldn’t even say the word hip hop she crossed over she needs to own it she should call herself the queen of pop and beef about not being up for pop awards and let’s see how fast the white pop media toss her black ass out
February 14th, 2012 at 4:54 pm
“Who gives a F about Big & Pac?” STFU you little bitch ass kid! FOR REAL! How dare anyone make a stupid ass comment like that & NOT get their ass beat is beyond me! There’s a reason why people of prior generations consistently complain about today’s musical landscape… IT’S TRASH! PERIOD! As far as anything else goes let’s be clear. I’m a product of the true Golden Era of Rap (87-92) & even though I KNOW that’s the GOAT I also always knew who came before me, who created this ish, & had an undying respect for them, no matter if their music held up or not. Also I know that those of my age carried the torch set by these incredible men & women & took Hip Hop to even bigger & better places. Name 5 cats under the age of 21 now who have truly innovated Hip Hop in the past 5 years. TIMES UP! YOU CAN’T DO IT! Drake???? REALLY?! GTFOH! In our era every age group was bringing it! If this was as late as 2001 90% of the trash out now would not be getting any kind of airplay, sales, influence, or anything. It doesn’t deserve any of the press, accolades, sales, or shine it’s receiving! These cats are trash! For your punk ass to sit there & talk shit about those who came before you & built this shit to what it is today… F$%^ YOU FOR REAL! I knew & respected Herc, & Flash, & Kurtis, & all those cats even though they were barely relevant to me when I was growing up. YOU NEED TO LEARN SOME HISTORY & SOME RESPECT!
February 14th, 2012 at 5:16 pm
This nicki gimmick is ridiculous, just look at the artwork , this hoe is trying to be Caucasian, why is she bleeching her skin and altering her skin color in photoshop? It’s not cute. She needs to embrace herself for being BLACK. The contacts and the bleeching are disgusting.
February 14th, 2012 at 5:57 pm
I don’t get my ass beat cause britches like you are only tough online. Fuck your essay ass comment and Fuck your life.
February 14th, 2012 at 8:58 pm
I don’t know about him but I know actual niggas that’d bitch slap for that ‘who gives a f about biggie and pac’ comment. They died when I was 5 and 6 years old and I still respect what they did as well as the bar they set
February 14th, 2012 at 10:07 pm
In all honesty I mean they are irrelevant today. I’m not discrediting what they’ve done and their contribution I have both of all their albums I’ve heard their whole discography tons of times (well most of Pac’s) my main point is they have nothing to do with today’s music. Dude said what would they think and I was saying fuck them on that regard. Jay-Z co-signed Wale and I think Wale is straight doo-doo so what makes y’all think big and Pac would have opinions you value today? And stop with the nonsense about slapping people. The only think your slapping its your keyboard.
February 14th, 2012 at 10:46 pm
@jasperfect Aww you’re so sweet to shout me out like that! Bitch ass can’t even spell & wants to talk. Funny how bold you females act nowadays! Internet thuggery… LMAO! My comments toward you were that cats like you need some sense slapped into you. I was wrong though. It’s worse than I thought. You’re the type of bitch that ends up on the news splayed out & his bitch ass fam cries & complains about it! It’s not senseless violence. It’s called thinning out the herd bitch! I stand by my words. You’re ignorant response was proof of my point! Thank you & thank yo momma too!
February 15th, 2012 at 2:22 am
40 + comments, means you still cupping Nicki’s balls.
Anyways, THIS IS WHAT THE FIRST SINGLE SHOULD’VE BEEN. THIS IS WHAT THE GRAMMY PERFORMANCE SHOULD’VE BEEN . Just like Inf said , some catchy hook that the crowd would’ve latched on to . Would’ve already been shipped plat by the end of the show.
Pop can be a variety of genres, You dont like it, stop listening to it and commenting on it. You wont stop listening you wont stop commenting like masochists . What you need is help. Absurd . Waka Flocka releases new music, you know what I do ? I dont press the play button , I by pass what I dont like. Ya’ll fools
hit the play button to complain.
February 15th, 2012 at 5:52 am
Stands up and slow claps
February 15th, 2012 at 11:11 am
Why does she have to look so white though? That bitch gonna be transparent by the end of her career.
February 17th, 2012 at 11:35 pm
so what sub-genre would you put this song under?
and yes there are sub genre’s in hip-hop if you want there to be, maybe they arent recognised by the RIAA or something.
