Speaking with Rap-Up at the 2014 BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards in Los Angeles on Friday, Mystikal revealed he’s having issues with Cash Money Records, and doesn’t fit the label’s mold.
“I don’t really fit the mold of the situation I’m in,” he said on the red carpet. “I’m different, man. I have to be able to be the artist that I am. If I can’t do that, then it’s not gonna work for me.” Signing with the label in 2011, Mystikal has no harsh words for feelings towards Birdman or Lil’ Wayne. “That’s all respect. That’s family. We were family prior to this. And I thank them for the opportunity, but I don’t wanna be a liability to them ’cause it’s a waste of money, if nothing ever comes from it.”
Under YMCMB he’s released the single “Original” featuring Lil’ Wayne and Birdman, but not much has transpired since. The news comes a month after Busta Rhymes announced his departure from Cash Money Records, citing creative differences.
