Lana Del Rey Hits #1 in 15 Countries…Then Retires?
Posted by Gabz under Fashion , Hmmm? , Life Beyond Rap[9] Comments
After a spasm of bad publicity, finally some good news graced Lana Del Rey. The songstress topped 15 countries’ iTunes charts with her debut album Born to Die, according to Billboard. Yet apparently, even that isn’t enough to convince her to release another LP. Complex reports that Lana told Vogue UK this will be her last release. She says, “I don’t think I’ll write another record. What would it say? Everything I wanted to say, I’ve said already.”
Although the media already seemed to have it in for LDR, things seemed to escalate after a poorly received SNL debut. Interestingly, the show decided to half-parody, half-defend her in a spoof you can watch after the jump.
After the jump…
Lana’s SNL skit…
And much debated performance…
Hilarious SNL skit…do you think it was well-deserved?
Here is her original performance that caused so much backlash:
Also worth checking out her recent Complex cover. What do you think of Lana Del Rey?

info, i was waiting for you to do another post on her so i could let you know that i first found out about her (and the weeknd, too) through your site. thanks, yo!
anyway, i’m digging the album and i think all the haterism she gets is beyond bogus and unwarranted. i could go on and on with my opinion about the whole ordeal, but who really cares, right?
suffice it to say, i fux with ol’ girl…

whats supposed to be wrong with her performance?…
I like it.
Parody was on point.
it mocked her weird side as well as the stupidity of some critics

I love her voice. I find it therapeutic. I’m going to get her album and check it out. Sucks if she really is going to retire though.

Damn! Grand opening, grand closing.
Her album is fire though, I found out about her on this site and 2weeks ago I bought her EP on iTunes not knowing her album was close to dropping. Either way, I copped the album on release day and has been playing it since. I hope she reconsider this decision. There’s always something to sing about, this is just the beginning ma!
The SNL skit was funny, as expected, and nothing’s wrong with her performance. I wasn’t expecting drums and dancing so I have to wonder, WTH was wrong with her performance?

No offense, but you need someone else to help you find music. @ me if you want to know the real “scene” in NYC, it’s definitely NOT LDR!!!
LDR bought her way in the way The Strokes (remember them?) did. She just popped up, come on!
Follow me people, i heard “Pumped Up Kicks” in summer 2010!! There’s too much good music to waste on Corporate machine music!!
Here’s a list of some bands to check out
Porcelain Raft, Bicycle Voice, The Phoenix Foundation, Jamie Long..just @ me people

The backlash started way before the SNL disaster AND it was well deserved. SNL just brought it to a wider audience.
With that said, whoever crafted her album did a good job with it. LDR was an entertaining, manufactured act (just like many other pop artists).
I fux with it.

People are straight dead…this whole issue is twisted beyond belief!?! That record may indeed bang hard from wonderful production etc..but the fact remains (I saw it live w/my 14yr old…and she was dumbfounded as to why this person was on TV let alone SNL), that performance was THEFUCKINGWORST! Music is this: If you are a created product and you can’t pull that studio creation off LIVE(see Milli Vanili)…you GOTS TA GO! Straight like that…all this other extra bullshit is just IDIOTS (yes 30Rock) leeching on and ruining music culture.

Keep it all the way live wit’cha…The Industry always keeps an eye on it’s #1 Slave (Rap Music) and it knows Lana (aka Lizzy) is pop music’s Rick Ross hopeful and the only thing that is really admirable about her; is that right now she is showing that she really doesn’t have the ‘tattooed stomach/man breasts’ to be a completely soul-less, SOLD, industry WHORE.
