Kanye’s engineer Mike Dean gives details on Watch The Throne
Posted by Mikey Fresh under Videos[8] Comments
Though it’s a pretty lengthy and boring interview unless you’re a serious music nerd, this clip sheds some light on Jay x Kanye’s upcoming album, Watch The Throne. Mike Dean, who works closely with Ye, says the project is near complete and he co-produced a good 4-5 tracks from the project. Apparently, someone else attempted to mix the album first and failed to meet expectations. Dean may end up mixing the entire project
Another interesting bit is Mike saying he never records in studios anymore to avoid leaks. They just strap a hard drive to carrier and send them on a plane to get records from one another.
The Kanye talks begins at the 23min mark. (Props HHU)

Very interesting. Thanks for posting this. I’m a “serious music nerd” and former engineer so I enjoyed it.

Despite the fact that I’m nowhere close to being a musician (I play a mean tambourine, though) and understood about 1.5% of the lingo (Compressed drums?? Protools 5??), I still very much enjoyed watching this…wait, does this make me a music nerd too?
Now if you guys excuse me, I have to go finish reading up on some linear and production notes…..

Great post.
Mike Dean is responsible for engineering and co-producing some great hiphop records over a few decades now.
I look forward to hearing his work on ‘watch the throne’

he produced Thee Smile, My homies and untouchable. I wonder how many crazyass rapalot sessions he witnessed?
