life of pablo tidal numbers

Almost two months after its slightly unconventional release, Kanye West’s The Life of Pablo tops the Billboard 200. According to official numbers from Nielsen Music, the album sold 94,000 equivalent album units between March 31, when it was finally released on non-TIDAL streaming platforms, and April 7.

Not only is it the first major album not be released commercially, The Life of Pablo is also the first No. 1 album “where the majority (70 percent, in fact) of its units were generated by streaming equivalent albums,” according to Billboard. The album earned 66,000 in sales from streaming (which equates to just over 99 million streams) and 28,000 in physical sales, which came from the downloads made available on TIDAL and Kanye West’s website, as well as to ticket holders at Kanye’s Yeezy Season 3 fashion show and movie theater screenings.

According to TIDAL, The Life of Pablo was streamed more than 250 million times in its first 10 days (between February 14 and 24). Kanye and TIDAL declined to report those numbers to Nielsen Music (which explains its late arrival on the charts), despite the fact the album would have topped the Billboard 200 that week with a more impressive tally.

However, even with the lowest opening week sales of his career, The Life of Pablo still marks Kanye’s seventh consecutive No. 1 album. Mr. West took to Twitter to celebrate his latest success while teasing his upcoming tour.
