With a hand in various albums set to arrive this summer, Kanye West’s recent promo run on Twitter maybe his most controversial moment. On Wednesday (Apr. 26), the artist/designer tweeted in support of U.S. President Donald Trump. “You don’t have to agree with trump but the mob can’t make me not love him,” said Kanye. “We are both dragon energy. He is my brother. I love everyone. I don’t agree with everything anyone does. That’s what makes us individuals. And we have the right to independent thought.”

West would later post a photo of himself wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat, and followed that up with an updated photo of the hat signed by Trump himself. “Thank you Kanye, very cool!,” Trump tweeted in response to Kanye.

Kanye’s comments created backlash all over social media, trending worldwide since publishing those comments. The rapper also addressed former President Barack Obama saying, “Obama was in office for eight years and nothing in Chicago changed.” Obama famously called Kanye a “jackass” in 2009 after the infamous Taylor Swift incident at the MTV VMAs in New York City.

West’s comments came in response to a report by HOT 97’s Ebro Darden, who revealed that Yeezy said to him “I love Donald Trump,” and also in defense of his support of onservative commentator Candace Owens.

YouTube’s global head of music Lyor Cohen, who is pictured in one of the photos with Kanye and Universal Music Group chairman and CEO Lucian Grainge, issued a statement after receiving backlash himself. “I went to listen to music and see Kanye. He is someone I care about. I don’t abandon people. With great music comes great pain and stress. The music is incredible!.”
