A day after celebrating his 36th birthday, Kanye West closed out the final day of The Govenors Ball Music Festival at Randall’s Island in New York City on Sunday evening. The always stylish Kanye appeared on the main stage with a more baggier look, sporting the new all-red Nike Air Yeezy 2’s slated to release later this year. Kicking things off, Mr. West opened with his new records “Black Skinhead” and “New Slaves” which he performed last month on SNL.

The 90-minute set included performances of past hits “Can’t Tell Me Nothing,” “Power,” “Don’t Like (Remix),” “Diamonds,” “Runaway,” “All Falls Down,” and more. With his highly-anticipated Yeezus album set to arrive on June 18, Yeezy used the moment to debut a few new records. Moving from the main stage to an elevated area in the crowd wearing a straitjacket, Kanye entertained the packed crowd with the rumored Daft Punk-produced “Onsite” previously performed once, “I Am A God” segueing into “Jesus Walks,” plus an untitled record featuring vocals from fellow Chicago-native King L.

“You know with this album, we ain’t drop no single for radio, we ain’t got no big NBA campaign or nothing like that. Shit we ain’t got no cover…..we just made some real music,” said Kanye during his now trademark rant during “Clique.”

Miss Info: Watching Kanye in concert is always a thrill, but it seemed like Kanye had other things on his mind even while rocking a packed crowd of muddy Governors Ball attendees. Even his short speech (see below) was short on rant-iness and more of a defense against traditional music releases dates and lead-in radio singles. But if Ye seemed distracted on his crowd surfing podium, it could be because he’s actually still working on Yeezus!

We’ve been hearing that he flew out to Malibu to work with grand wizard Rick Rubin last week, and Nah Right cited NY Post reports and a photo from engineer Mike Dean that also support the theory that Yeezus is not quite done.

Which means that the album won’t make its June 18th drop date, or it will be a digital release?

“Clique Rant”

I’m just happy to be making music music, and happy to be able to perform that shit for y’all. You know with this album, we ain’t drop no single to radio. We ain’t got no big NBA campaign or nothing like that. Shit, we ain’t even got no cover. We just made some real music. And you know, back when I used to make albums and shit, like a couple years ago, three, four years ago, we’d go away and work on an album for like five months or so, and we’d always have to hold the album ’til like August or September ’til the perfect moment and shit, ’cause it means that I think you gon’ sell more ’cause you get more audience and radio and shit. But honestly, at this point, when I listen to radio, that ain’t where I wanna be no more. Honestly, at this point, I could give a fuck about selling a million records. As long as I put out an album for the summer that y’all can rock to all motherfucking summer. And I don’t give a fuck to what the label tell me; I’m gon’ sell more records. ‘Cause at this point, I don’t really give a fuck about outside opinions.
