Kanye rocks the planetarium with Kid Sister, The Cool Kids and DJ A-trak

Like most of the best hip hop moments, it was a total surprise to the supertrend crowd when Kanye jumped onstage at the Kid Sister/The Cool Kids/DJ A-Trak show this past friday in NYC. Everyone at the Rose Center at The Museum of Natural History went bonkers when Kanye (in a three-quarter-length lapin) walked out to perform “Pro-Nails” with Kid Sister. Nice! Then ‘Ye did some of his own songs, inclding “Flashing Lights,” and brought out The Cool Kids.
Kid Sister looks supercute. I have a photo of me rockin’ a “butter” back in the day somewhere. That’s what we called fingerwaves in Chicago. I’m gonna look for that comedic classic.
(props to Jesse Lee from Dub Frequency, photos spotted at Pitchfork Media, more photos on Pitchfork as well as Fool’s Gold tour dates)
PS: I’m hearing that my fellow Chicagoans The Cool Kids have been getting some Hollywood Hills love from the Joel Maddens and the Justin Timberlakes of the world. Fancy pants. Lol.

Be on the lookout for G.O.O.D. Music artist Big Sean from Detroit…he’ll be next up

call me closed minded if you want but that coat kanye is wearing looks so gay on him.its exactly like those old russian fur joints they show in the movies where it looks like they skinned 2,000 rats to make it.all he’s missing is a matching hat.

Damn, I almost went to that show. Ms. Info, here’s my thought on The Cool Kids, they’re dope, but. They say they’re not a retro group, but they talk about a little bit of gold and a pager and having LA Gears and ( insert 80’s fashion item here). What happens when the hipsters and Street Wear enthusiasts are done with the 80’s?

@fresh….haha. yeah, that scene can get a bit much. I mean, having lived thru that time, it was hilarious while it lasted but LA Gears were wack. Thats why they died out. And its just too easy to pick out every random pop culture reference from a decade and try to milk the nostalgia out of it. At the end of the day…we must also make sure that the music is tight and things are moving forward : )

Yo I was so planning on going to this joint. The minute I got to the city, someone that was there already told the joint sold out. I wasn’t even expecting any surprise guests (although maybe i should’ve), I really just wanted to party in the AMNH.
Oh and folks, I’m predicting if the 80’s been came back, expect that 90’s stuff to be here pretty soon. I’m telling you get your Nautica jackets and Tommy jeans ready.

MissInfo! First, I luv your blog. I did not know you were Chicago! What you know about figure waves?! Best wishes and keep up the good work.

@cabrinigreeny…lol yes I am from the chi! Thanks so much for the support too! I’m ashamed/proud to say that not only have I rocked fingerwave, shirley temple curls, and spit curls….but I was even dragged into a hairshow or two, hahaha.
As a fellow chicagoan, do you feel the same way as me: I will never get over the fact that Cabrini Green is now surrounded by fancy condos. Its mind boggling.

“Mind boggling!” I was born and raised in C.G. Nonetheless, the development that’s going on has been in the works since my parents were kids there. Once Clinton was able to change the public housing laws in 1996, the city and real estate folks were able to do as they dreamed.

..add ‘Vintage’ Girbaud, Guess, Double RL (the discontinued line),Deisel, Classic Polo Strap boots & Armani to that list

Kanye needs his own clothing line. He is the only backpack nigga I fucks with.

@goldchain….lol, quite possibly. Not as bad as “the dream” or “soulja boy tell em” tho.
@cabrinigreeny…are you still in Chicago? I don’t get home much and when I do, i just hang with family….but have the other big projects been changed too? Like ida b wells, or the ickes?

Kid sister is looking right- too bad she can’t rap her way out of a paper bag.
January 30th, 2008 at 3:45 pm
Yeah, I’m still in the Chi. Wish I was back in NYC! I LOVE that city. But anyway, just about all the PJs have been “changed.” State St. look like “Shock & Awe” was done. What side of town are you from? I’m going to guess the south-side.

I was there it got crazy when ‘Ye came out. Kid sis was doing her thing and she had bronchitis. by the way they didn’t bring out the Cool Kids there performance was first which was also the on point. This was the best $20 show ever and it came with a free ticket to the museum to get my learn on.

@ TheY2DreProblem: Kid sister can flow she just needs better hooks and beats and a better stage presence would help…but like I said before she was sick when I saw her perfrom.

JC Powers: Damn she be coughin alot, that girl. She barely had any voice when she played Stockholm either.
As far as the 90’s its already here isn’t it? But we think it’s the 80’s coz the 90’s really spanned from 86-96 and not from 90-00. Wu-Tang Forever was the last 90’s record, and Puffy’s shiny suits was the start of the new millennium.
