Joey Bada$$ reportedly got caught up with the wrong side of the law in Australia while performing at the Falls Festival near Byron Bay in New South Wales. Apparently, a 20-year-old security guard stopped Joey and asked him for credentials as he was heading to the stage. Things must have gotten heated because the man allegedly suffered a broken nose thanks to Bada$$’ fists. Billboard reports that he received medical attention and was brought to a hospital afterwards.

According to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, the Brooklyn rapper, age 19, was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm,” and must head back to Australian court on March 19. Police arrested Joey, and he was taken into custody for 1 night.

Update: Joey Bada$$’s camp released this statement.

“Joey can confirm that there was a misunderstanding with security at the Byron Falls Festival show, which resulted in charges being laid,” the rapper’s representative, Bradley Bledsoe, said in a statement, adding: “After fully cooperating with police, Joey was granted bail and entered a plea of not guilty to the charge.”
