Jennifer Lopez Returns to the Bronx for Her First Ever Hometown Concert to Launch State Farm Neighborhood Sessions

With an illustrious career that has spanned two decades,the one thing missing on Jennifer Lopez’s résumé was performing a concert in her hometown. That moment came true as J.Lo returned to the Bronx, New York for a free show at Orchard Beach in Pelham Bay Park.

The Idol judge kicked off State Farm’s Neighborhood Sessions live concert series on Wednesday night, rocking a crowd of 25,000 people with a 90-minute set filled with multiple wardrobe changes, a laser show, fireworks, and flames.

Backed by an all-male dance team and two background singers, Lopez opened the show with one of her latest records “Same Girl.” The 44-year-old went through a set-list of past hits including “Love Don’t Cost A Thing,” “If You Had My Love,” “I’m Into You,” “Waiting for Tonight,” and “Get Right,” in between covering Diane Ross’ “Theme from Mahogany,” Barbra Streisand’s “My Man,” and paying tribute to Selena.

J.Lo also used the stage time to perform songs off her new album A.K.A. (Jul. 17), such as the Diplo-produced “Big Booty,” and her latest singles “First Love” and “I Luh Ya Papi” with fellow Bronx-native French Montana. The Coke Boys rapper wasn’t the only guest, as another hometown hero in Fat Joe joined the pop star for his smash-hit “Lean Back.”

The loudest cheers for saved for Ja Rule, who appeared on stage alongside Lopez for their two chart-topping collaborations “Ain’t It Funny” and “I’m Real” as the singer-actress fittingly closed the night with “Jenny From the Block.” T.I., Irv Gotti, French Montana’s new beau Khloe Kardashian, HOT 97’s own Angie Martinez, Cipha Sounds, Ebro, and Bronx Borough President Rubén Díaz, Jr. were also in attendance taking in the event. “Had so much fun tonight!
