Not calling this a gimmick but wondering out loud over all..

When will this guy go away, he ranks amongst the elite simply because of his corporate connect and not for intricate lyrical ability…..Hip Hop has been dead for years……Old man that should be busy looking after his grand children….Steve Stoute is in charge these days
June 23rd, 2013 at 5:04 pm
Jay-Z is god.
Past.
Present.
Future.
Proper.
June 23rd, 2013 at 7:37 pm
What’s wrong with you Hip-Hop fans? How can you try to downplay his accomplishments? It’s called business, you idiot…supply & demand. People come to Jay-Z with business opportunities because there is a demand for him. Hip hop is not dead obviously because you are on a hip hop website and you still feel a need to be kept abreast with what is going on. Jay Z is still a really good talent and his lyrical ability until is still intact. You weren’t saying hip hop is dead until Nas came out with the slogan. And Steve Stoute probably came up with that marketing slogan. You’re a slave to marketing… f—- Face.
June 25th, 2013 at 7:49 pm
Fuck that. Kanye is a great producer, but he writes HORRIBLE verses. He needs a ghostwriter. Maybe he could get the number from Nas for his ghostwriter, lol.
June 26th, 2013 at 5:02 pm
Fascinating to ponder. No disrespect, gimmick or not, does it matter? Even if all these videos, lyrics, deals are devices to garner attention, does it take away from the message[lyrics above] and the genius of strategy. And by ‘genius of strategy’ I mean, from building an arena to selling his ownership, to becoming an agent, to making the deal with Sony, thereby cutting out the middle man. And the list goes on.
June 26th, 2013 at 5:02 pm
Kanye called his own music crack music. It would seem Jay-z is built for selling crack [music that is] and cutting out the middle and all the competition in the process.
July 1st, 2013 at 11:37 am
These new rules are agonizing.
July 3rd, 2013 at 10:39 am
the commercials bore me. the marketing scheme is kinda corny to me. just drop some music already
July 3rd, 2013 at 10:44 am
Business skills have been and never will be questioned by me. The guy’s worth nearly a 1/2 billion that’s what business is. Great things.
I’m speaking in terms of the music. I haven’t read ANY of these revealed lyrics because I want the total package first. And thats what I’ll judge this off of. Will the package be the level of the campaign that precedes it. What makes it Genius? Lyrics have been dropped before for albums.
I try to step away from the hype and often I feel that anything Jay does automatically gets this extra buzz just cuz its Jay. We’ll see.
Im hoping for a great album.
July 3rd, 2013 at 11:15 am
Nas has no ghostwriter.. but he does ghostwrite for artist so yeah, Ye can call him for a verse..
July 3rd, 2013 at 12:40 pm
This album will be whack
July 3rd, 2013 at 1:54 pm
Where j. Cole on this man
July 3rd, 2013 at 3:15 pm
That album cover is terrible. WTF does a Greco-Roman statue have to do with the Magna Carta, the Holy Grail *or* Jay?
Not that any Jay album had a decent cover (other than Blueprint, I kind of dug that one).
July 3rd, 2013 at 5:51 pm
Loving the cover, Hov. I see you’re taking a page out of Kanye’s book and worshiping old white people art.
July 3rd, 2013 at 6:52 pm
No Matter how much people dislike HOV (He is very clever & best when it comes to making music & business). Just because you cant relate to some of his music doesn’t mean he lost it. He’s evolving (my opinion just like people have their own)as I see it as long as we are talking about him he won!
July 3rd, 2013 at 8:04 pm
it has to do with appealing to white people. Rick Rubin’s prolly on the back cover.
July 3rd, 2013 at 11:25 pm
do you have any kind of box you put yourself in when you say dumb shit like “old white people art”? pure ignorance. shut up.
July 4th, 2013 at 2:05 am
Man to hell with jayz and samsung. How u make an app specifically for an album download but cant handle the traffic. Then we gotta listen on the radio? Smh. The only satisfaction in this is that jayz will have the haighest drop in album sales in history come next week.
July 4th, 2013 at 2:27 am
The brown-nosing will be groundbreaking once the album’s released.
July 4th, 2013 at 2:41 am
Buddy on the tracklist is there a featuring Kanye?
See what I mean about you boycotting sense as well?
July 4th, 2013 at 3:27 am
Do you realise this post has been updated when that track listing was first shown it had no features look when kipp made the comment you must be dumb as hell
July 4th, 2013 at 3:43 am
Lol
July 4th, 2013 at 4:00 am
STAN!!!
July 4th, 2013 at 5:30 am
somewhere between American Gangster and Vol 3..just a great listen
July 4th, 2013 at 7:36 am
hey, wanna know the name of the roman statue used by Jay on the cover
July 4th, 2013 at 8:18 am
So I just listened to this album. It’s mixtape quality with a few aight tracks. Don’t waste your time.
July 4th, 2013 at 9:43 am
^ & what you have right here is a liar. Admittedly, I was agitated by the lyric sheet tactics. But, this album is fire.
July 4th, 2013 at 1:55 pm
AN ONCE AGAIN THE NEPTUNES HAVE TO PUT JAY-Z ON AND SCRAPE HIS ASS OFF THE ASPHALT……..THEY HAD TO BRING NYC TO JAY-Z
SO PITIFUL AND RIDICULOUS AT THE SAME TIME
POSERS; BUT OF COURSE THIS SOUND WILL BE BRAND NEW TO MANY, YEAH RT. I AIN’T WIT THAT SUIT AND TIE EITHER.
EVEN PUFF HAD DADDY’S HOUSE AND KNOWS HOW TO HOLLER AT DOWNTOWN AND UPTOWN AT THE SAMETIME—-THE STREETS MIGHT NOT LIKE THE DUDE BUT THEY KNOW HIS NAME….JAY-Z HAS ALWAYS BEEN WHACK—-AT NOTHING NEW BOO BOO. THE FOOL.
WHO CAN’T HEAR THOSE JOYCE SIMS, MATRONIX, AND LATIN QUARTERS INFLUENCES ON THE ALBUM
REGARDLESS…..SHOW OF HANDS WHO IN HERE IS RIDING FOR JAY-Z?
July 4th, 2013 at 2:07 pm
Junk. No direction. Everybody involved in this should retire except probably Beyonce. She’s pretty good at making dance songs. Album is stylistically and creatively lost. If Kanye and Jay-Z had never met, I feel like Jay-Z’s career would have collapsed after Vol.3.
July 4th, 2013 at 3:12 pm
Show of hands? we are not in class bro
July 4th, 2013 at 10:01 pm
Magna Carta Holy Fail this album is trash. Listen for yourself over at RapGodFathers.
July 5th, 2013 at 4:07 am
Easily the worst jay album ever released, but with all the gimmicks (“that omg changed the game”) i expected this.
July 5th, 2013 at 9:53 am
Agree album is trash accept for maybe 2 joint.
July 5th, 2013 at 10:00 am
Can we get a Will Smith collab?
July 5th, 2013 at 10:59 am
dont ever comment on rap again..
this is clearly the best rap out there at the moment..peace to the homie Jcole and yezus..but son been doin this for a long time..nas on it alone made it that much interesting..and its that new HOV..
nobodys subject matter will match IMO..
July 5th, 2013 at 12:09 pm
Jay is evolving? How? Only his pockets are evolving, while all you worshippers of his mediocre lyrics and fame make him richer! The most overhyped album ever!!! Good beats, over-promotion, same old Jay! Nothing special here!
July 5th, 2013 at 2:15 pm
Didn’t like the album. Will give it another listen soon enough. Beats are hot though.
July 5th, 2013 at 3:05 pm
The problem with you so called hip hop fans is this.
You want Jay-Z to make ten reasonable doubts……. However, if he made ten Reasonable Doubts, then you’d bitch about him making ten Reasonable Doubts. There’s no winning with yall.
July 5th, 2013 at 5:49 pm
Which song was Raekwon to be featured on?
July 5th, 2013 at 6:42 pm
Some Math:
first i deleted the obviously wack stuff off my ipod. (eventually everything will go.)
i was left with 9 tracks.
of the 9 remaining, 2 are less than a minute. (Beach is Better, Versus)
1 is clearly a rick ross song. (F*ckwithme)
another 1 i had to keep because it has such a dope beat as well as a really dope line: “when i was talking instagram, last thing you wanted was your picture snapped.” but then he spends nearly 1 minute being really creepy towards miley cyrus. also this song is only 2.28. (Somewhereinamerica)
subtracting the 2 that are less than a minute, 3 only contain 1 jay-z verse. (F*ckwithme, Somewhereinamerica, BBC)
so yes, it’s underwhelming. please stop ruining your legacy jay-z.
July 6th, 2013 at 11:00 pm
agreed.
July 7th, 2013 at 12:47 am
I agree with you. Kanye is great but he must improve his verses.
July 7th, 2013 at 10:45 am
Great album. Best songs:
FUTW
Oceans
Somewhere in smerica
Jay Z blue
Tom Ford
Heaven
Nickels and dimes was also good and BBC had that vintage Neptunes feel. Fuckwithmeyouknowigotit sounds like a Rick Ross song, but I still bump. Wasn’t expecting more from Jay.
July 7th, 2013 at 10:46 am
The fact that you left out Heaven and Jay Z blue shows that you don’t understand lyricism.
July 7th, 2013 at 10:48 am
Shout out to old jews and old rules, new blacks with new stacks.
July 7th, 2013 at 10:51 am
Why though??? Sweet and sour sauce??? gtfoh
July 7th, 2013 at 10:59 am
43 year old man still has the best record out. What a shame. Back in the days, we weren’t even checking for a Big Daddy Kane or Krs One. Not that we didn’t respect them, but just cause they couldn’t hang with our legends. And here you have a nigga who has been in the game for 20 odd years still fucking it up.
July 7th, 2013 at 3:47 pm
Agreed.I can’t believe with all the hype this is what came from it.Magna Crapshit Toilet Bowl is awful.Jay has truly lost all motivation to make music and just put out an album of mediocre tracks with a flashy gimmick to promote it.There not even any fire lyrics.Even Kanye’s Yeezus was better than this.Yeezus was lyrical awful, but at least it has great production and catchy songs.Magna Crapshit Toilet Bowl was awful on all fronts.
July 7th, 2013 at 6:58 pm
LOOL. and you were totally right.
July 8th, 2013 at 12:13 pm
Stop fronting, you were a hater from jump.
July 8th, 2013 at 12:15 pm
These are statues from the cathedral where the original magna carta documents are housed.
July 8th, 2013 at 12:19 pm
Coming from the man calling the cover “white people art” lol. You lack the mental capacities to dissect Jay’s music obviously.
July 8th, 2013 at 12:21 pm
Yeezus fan alert. Sorry, but this is a hip hop site.
July 8th, 2013 at 7:05 pm
Shut up. This album is a freakin masterpiece
July 8th, 2013 at 8:20 pm
Dick rider confirmed ^^^^
July 10th, 2013 at 9:09 pm
“Fuckwithmeyouknowigotit sounds like a Rick Ross song”
Rick Ross is on the half of the song…
March 26th, 2014 at 8:28 pm
I don’t see how this is a “gimmick” any more than any other hip hop/rap album out there.
Jay Z has always been a pioneer, always will be.
