It’s been a long road for Brooklyn, but the day is finally here. Later tonight, Jay-Z will christen the new billion-dollar Barclays Center with the first of eight concerts in his hometown of Brooklyn, New York. Before the inaugural performance, celebrities, industry execs, and close friends of the mogul attended the opening of the new 40/40 club located in the new arena, which serves home for the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets (formerly the New Jersey Nets).
Rihanna, Questlove of The Roots, J. Cole, Lyor Cohen, Angie Martinez, Anthony Mandler, NBA All-Stars Deron Williams and Joe Johnson, and our own Miss Info attended the swanky event. Fans who visit the new 40/40 club will also get a full view of the new hardwoord court, which opens for basketball when the Nets play the crosstown rivals New York Knicks on November 1.
“I walked around here earlier and I just seen everybody busy and at work trying to finish up and it was a great feeling. A guy stopped me in the hallway and said, ‘Man this is a great thing for New York City.’ And that’s what the whole thing was about.” said Jay-Z to MTV News when getting his first look of the new sports bar and nightclub on Thursday night.

The 70’s but who’s counting……lol….Being from Brooklyn and being a 20 yr Knick fan, I’ve been asked this question 1000 times since they started building the arena..”you gonna be a Nets fan now??” My answer is I’m a basketball fan 1st and yes I root for the Knicks but I’ve always wanted the Nets to do well, I loved when the Nets had those good teams, whether it was when it was Kenny A., Drazen, D.C. and Jayson Williams and them, Steph, or J Kidd and K Mart. But again, being a Brooklynite, how can you not be happy to have an arena and an NBA team in your backyard…..priceless!!
As far as the Knicks sucking….thats what being a fan is all about, gotta take the good with the bad, only the fans of 2 teams are gonna be happy in June. I just hate when ppl jump on the bandwagon of a team when they start doing well. Fairweather fans…

Jay-Z stays winning… Ppl like to say he doesn’t own that much of the nets and the “real owners” (whatever that means) are just using Jay-Z.
For somebody who is being used, he seems to get a lot out of this… His own 40/40 club in the arena, Rocawear store in the arena, he opens the arena with 8 of his own shows and he will have say in all performances at the arena… Allowing him to leverage his power to have his own Roc Nation artists perform there.
It must actually be kinda hard within yourself to hate on Jay-Z’s moves.
