Continue after the jump…..
Before things kicked off at the main stage, Iggy Azalea, Jhené Aiko, Childish Gambino, Chinx, Nipsey Hussle, and August Alsina got the party started with solo at the outdoor festival stage leading into the main show.
Moving inside MetLife Stadium, R&B singer Sevyn Streeter opened Summer Jam’s main show with her popular radio single “nEXt” with help from DJ-producer araabMUZIK. After performing at last year’s festival stage, Brooklyn’s own Troy Ave moved indoors to the main event, with a guest appearance from T.I. which quickly sparked rumors of the two joining forces in the near future.
Sticking to New York, it was Queens MC Action Bronson’s turn, as he closed his 10-minute set by leaving the stage and jumping into the crowd during “Strictly 4 My Jeeps.” A week after releasing his 28 Grams mixtape, Wiz Khalifa tested the new records in a live setting, later bringing out Snoop Dogg for “The Next Episode” and their smash-hit “Young, Wild and Free.”
Lead by Black Thought, The Roots turned this year’s show into their own jam session. The legendary band showed love to New York’s rap scene with guests The LOX, M.O.P., and Dres of Black Sheep. Trey Songz serenaded the ladies with past favorites and recent new material “Invented Sex, “Dive In,” “Say Aah,” “Na Na,” and the “Paranoid” remix with guest Ty Dolla $ign.
Continuing the 20-year celebration of Illmatic, Nas went through a medley of cuts off his 1994 classic debut before paying respect to the new street artists of today. Meek Mill and French Montana joined Nasty Nas to perform a medley of songs including “I Don’t Know” with singer Paloma Ford, their verses on DJ Khaled’s “They Don’t Love You No More,” “Imma Boss,” “Dreams & Nightmares (Intro)” and “Ain’t Worried About Nothin.” The biggest moment of the evening soon followed, as 50 Cent appeared alongside his fellow Queens-native and past foe to “I Get Money.”
It was the3n 50 Cent’s turn, who caught the crowd of 50,000 and those live streaming across the world off guard by reuniting with G-Unit’s Lloyd Banks, Tony Yayo, and Young Buck. Back together as a group for the first-time in years, the G-Unit group gave fans a 31-minute set with appearances from Trey Songz, Yo Gotti, and the premiere of the “Cuffin’ Season” remix with guest Fabolous.
The hot bed of Queens artists continued to make their mark at Summer Jam, as Nicki Minaj took the stage next. Opening with “Monster,” the Queen Barbz went right into her bag of surprises with Young Thug (“Danny Glover”), Soulja Boy (“Yasss Bish!!”), and Lil’ Herb (“Chi-Raq”). After performing her new single “Pills N Potions” for the first-time, Minaj caught fans off guard. “Its a ni**a in Young Money that I’m ain’t fu**ing with right now,” Nicki yelled. “Drake….I used to love you, but ni**a I don’t f**k with you no more,” Minaj followed with, as the small rant was a joke as her labelmate jumped on stage and joined her for “Worst Behaviour.”
Drake took the reigns next, performing Tha Carter V single “Believe Me” with Lil’ Wayne live for the first-time. Lil’ Tunechi followed up with his verse on Chris Brown’s “Loyal” before Drizzy closed Young Money’s set with the Hit-Boy produced “Trophies.”
Hitmaking producer and Roc Nation signee DJ Mustard closed this year’s show, bringing California’s new popular sound to the east coast with help from Ty Dolla $ign, Kid Ink, A$AP Ferg, YG, and Jeezy.

In Europe you get kicked off the Stage if your rap over you own vocal track, 90% off the Performances are total garbage.

That’s interesting because in Jamaica u can’t perform with the vocal track either. It’s just not what we do but Hip Hop for the most part has generally used the regular track and the rapper just raps over it.
Hip Hop is still has a long way to go with their performances though, all these shows should have a live band, all these hip hop artists should have their own live bands backing them. That’s how its been in Reggae/Dancehall for years.

G-Unit reuniting was Epic. Has bringing 50 on stage was Epic.
We heard the rumours before and I had a feeling it was gonna happen and I literally watched it hoping it would happen. It was a moment in Hip Hop for sure.
Nicki’s set was tight too but 50 shit was classic, esp the fact that a brawl happened on stage and they kept going. I need the CDQ of that Cuff in Season ASAP!

Miss Info can you shed any light on slowbucks getting beat down and robbed on stage or are you not allowed to talk about it? btw, who the hell is slowbucks and where do they get these names from

I disagree that a live show should always be with a band, especially when most of hip hop original recordings are made from beat-machines and samples, unlike reggae which is made with a live band in studio (mostly). If The Roots crew performed without a band, i’d see your point.
