French Montana Reflects on His Near Fatal Shooting in NYC (Video)

On the debut episode of Life + Times “The Genesis” Web Series, Bronx native French Montana brings the cameras through his hold stomping grounds as he talks about what made him want to get out the streets for good. After discussing about his lonely childhood with his single mother and younger brother, Frenchy takes us to the place where he was shot in the head and nearly lost his life. He reveals that it’s the first time he’s been back since the incident took place years ago.

Say what you want about French Montana but you can’t say his flow and delivery on tracks like “Stay Schemin’ was wack!
French has what Swizz Beatz and Jay-~Z refer to as moments. He picks or gets picked to feature on records that become hot. That’s why to me he’s a credible artist. The music is art, if it’s dope there’s no point denying it.
There’s artists with crazy rhyming schemes etc but when’s the last time they put out a record you liked?
I can name more than 10 records that French is on that is better than a lot of artists out here and I’m definitely getting “Excuse My French” when it drops.

ASAP Rocky’s “LiveLoveASAP” is better than anything French has or will ever release in his life. I realize the bar for good music is on the f*cking ground but that doesn’t mean we should be listening to French.

French chose the path he went down. I’m from a hood in the South Bronx just like him and was beset by bad influences. But I saw all the dudes around me going nowhere, getting into trouble with the law, dropping out of school. I saw myself starting to go down the wrong road then I went the other way. Good for him for making something of himself. Now maybe he can maybe start making more meaningful music outside of the regular knucklehead shit.

I’m a flashy dude, I can’t pop bottles with that asap shit! French music makes me feel like spending more money than I actually have!
Asap’s cool, but what French is cooking up is more my cup of tea.
