Frank Ocean performing “Dust/Acura Integurl”
On Sunday evening Frank Ocean made good on his promise to come back East and perform his first New York City show. Earlier this month, Frank cancelled his set an hour before showtime, due to being sick. However, his rescheduled show was well worth the wait.
Dressed in his standard show uniform: a fitted suit and carefully tied bandana, Franky hit the stage with just his mic. Screaming girls pretty much took over my right ear but my left was definitely channeled in on the man of the hour. He sounded great and very much like his recordings, though I do think I heard him singing over vocals at some points. Overall, I’d say he rocked. After a few more of these, I think he’ll fully reach his comfort level and master his live show. Frank’s going to be here a while.
more footage after the jump…

Aww! Frankie! He was nervous. I don’t blame him; New York is a tough crowd.

New York is so lucky! Not only do you get Frank Ocean once but twice!
I hope Frank Ocean makes his way to Texas soon!

we have lowered our standards. smh…i think this is the biggest joke/money grab in awhile. for him to be the ‘future of r&b’ let’s just say we need to go ‘back to the future’. all these buzz happy patrons got suckered out of their money to watch him sing over a jump drive of his music. for somebody that’s getting paid to write music and collab with some of the biggest names in the game(jay-z, beyonce, etc.), you tell me he can’t hire a BAND, BACK UP SINGERS, SOME KIND MUSICAL ACCOMPANYMENT. from the youtube clips it didn’t look entertaining at all. i like his music, but i’ll never pay to see him. i mean the-dream, trey songs, chris brown put on a way better show.

I’m going to the show tonight Info…I’m kinda looking forward to seeing the awkwardness in his performance.

no way my dude: i thought to myself on the way there that IF FO shows up with a backing band it’s going to be TERRIBLE – him crooning over indie rock drivel played live, played generically is NOT what the world needs!!! Live instrumentation is killing live Hip hop (unless you got ?uestlove drumming, maybe)!!!! It DETRACTS rather than adds, and is nearly always corny and terrible!!!! FO was cute, shy, but hitting the notes and the simple backing track MADE IT, my son!! The simple projections behind him were charming, fitting, and the right note of minimal. We’ll have years for bigger shows, this is a start.

BEEN saying that live instrumentation is killing hip hop. Shit is played as fuck.
I didn’t get into hip hop to listen to soft, indie-rock wannabe drivel. Hard beats! Get a decent speaker system and deliver energy to the peoples.
on another note, I’m a fan of Frank Ocean and his live show looks weak as fuck.
