On his new song “Summer Sixteen,” Drake raps “I might get a key to the city and give it to Wayne.” Turns out, the Canadian rapper’s wish is about to come true. In a Twitter post on Thursday afternoon (Feb. 11), Toronto Mayor John Tory announced Drake will receive a key to his hometown of Toronto on Friday.
In a short essay posted on Twitter, Tory explains why the OVO Sound CEO is the perfect candidate to receive such an honor. “Toronto must tell its stories. We must celebrate our talent & harness it for change. This isn’t swagger. It is key.” The news comes just a day after promotional billboards started to slowly appear in various locations across Toronto, in support of the 6 God’s Views From the 6 album due in April.
