The news began on Saturday, with Bow Wow announcing in a video posted on Facebook, that he’s left the label he has called home since 2009. The actor-rapper has released various singles under Cash Money Records, but his first album under YMCMB titled Underrated never saw the light of day.

This is a peaceful situation,” said Bow Wow. “This is me waking up and looking myself in the mirror, analyzing myself and asking myself, ‘What do want out of your career? What do you wanna do?’ I have so much music that needs to be heard. That wants to be heard by my fans. And I feel like it’s unfair. I’ve been quiet now for four years. I didn’t wanna say nothing because I wanted to make sure the time was right. And I wanted to make sure that I said what I wanted to say, it was said correctly. With that being said I feel like I had to part ways.”

While he states the split was amicable, Bow Wow states he wants to control when his music comes out and reveals he’s back to working with Snoop Dogg and Jermaine Dupri, the two artists who served as mentors during his career.

I wanna dictate when my music come out. I’m tired of going to the studio to make records and then I listen to them. ‘Cuz then they get old. Then when y’all ask for new music I don’t wanna hear it ‘cuz I’ve been listening to it for two or three months. I just can’t be held up up by nobody. It’s as simple as that. I got a daughter. I gotta family I gott provide for. Why not go back to the creators and masters who branded me? That’s Snoop Dogg and Jermaine Dupri. This is gonna make my new situation even more monumental. I wanted to be my own man. I wanted to be a boss and call my own shots.”

As for DJ Khaled, in a sit down on New York radio (7:00 min mark), the DJ-producer revealed he’s been off Cash Money Records for a while now. “I’m not signed to Cash Money at all. I’ve been off for a minute. It’s nothing that I’m here to promote that I’ve been off been off. I’m not that type of person.”

Khaled, who released his new single “How Many Times” under a new partnership with Sony, states that Birdman, Lil’ Wayne and Slim are still family even though they’ve parted ways. “That’s family. Lil Wayne and Birdman, that’s family. Y’all know that. The world know that. But, nah, it’s just We The Best.”

DJ Khaled and Bow Wow join a growing list of artists that includes Busta Rhymes, Jay Sean, Tyga and Mystikal, who have left Cash Money Records or expressed frustration and have requested to be released.
