All eyes in music and entertainment were focused on the Barclays Center in Brooklyn for the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night. The first major award show in the billion dollar arena brought a bunch of highlights during the red carpet arrivals, and main show as Lady Gaga kicked off the night by performing her ARTPOP single “Applause.” Miley Cyrus brought the sexy ratchet with her Bangerz hit “We Can’t Stop,” before bringing out Robin Thicke, 2 Chainz, and Kendrick Lamar for the “Give It To Me” remix.

Kanye West was the first solo rap act to bless the VMAs stage as he went with a dark, blacked out theme for his Yeezus cut “Blood on the Leaves.” Macklemore and Ryan Lewis brought awareness with help from Mary Lambert and Jennifer Hudson on “Same Love.” While Drake brought the fireworks with “Hold On, We’re Going Home” and “Started From the Bottom.” After that, Bruno Mars displayed why he’s one of the best today by performing “Gorilla” and Katy Pery had the honors of closing out the VMAs by taking it to the boxing ring under the Brooklyn Bridge in “Roar.”

The big winner of the evening went to the two leading nominees heading into this year’s awards: Justin Timberlake & Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. Both were nominated for six awards respectively, but as Justin left with four moonmen, including “Video of the Year” and the rap duo finished with three wins. Along with being honored with the prestigious “Video Vanguard” award, Timberlake had the biggest highlight of the night reuniting with his former group *NSYNC during a 15-minute medley of hits.
