After ten years of silence, dealing with a divorce and custody issues, Nas is speaking out once and for all. The rapper and entrepreneur took to Instagram on Thursday (Sept. 6), responding to his ex-wife Kelis’ allegations of abuse during their marriage. Back in April, Kelis revealed in an interview that Nas was unfaithful to her during their marriage and the Queens MC physically abused her, often leaving bruises on her body.

I didn’t Wana speak up because i have real respect for our women. And definitely my son. I do not beat women. I did not beat up my ex wife. Stop,” said Nas in a series on lengthy Instagram posts. Throughout the emotional rant, Nas touches on the abuse allegations, not being able to see his son, financial issues during their divorce and custody battle, and more. Read it all below.

When you purchase Nas’ Life Is Good next Tuesday, the closing song titled “Bye Baby” features the Queens MC opening up about his ex-wife Kelis. The smooth closer on the standard edition, produced by Salaam Remi and Noah “40” Shebib, has Nas in classic storytelling mode as he breaks down their ups and down from the day he first saw her during the Star Trak/Pharrell days, getting married, to their messy break-up ending in divorce.

“No matter who you f**k, that was before me
Wanted you as my shorty since before I saw you screamin’
Hate you so much right now, should’ve saw the man in angry black women….ashes of a demon – I’m leaving.”

Nas sent shockwaves earlier this month when he unveiled the cover to his upcoming Life Is Good album, due July 17. As we know, the cover features Nas in a suit holding the green wedding dress his ex-wife Kelis wore when they tied the knot. As he revealed in his VH1 Behind the Music special, Kelis left the dress behind after wanting a divorce and suddenly moving out. While out in the U.K. for this year’s Isle of Wight festival, Kelis voiced her thoughts on the artwork.

“My feelings about it are not really relevant, but you know at the end of the day Nas is an artist. And for whatever it’s worth he’s one of the greatest, and especially for what it is he does. So for me, I feel like especially for someone in hip-hop to kind of be genuine and honest, whatever the honesty is about, I think it’s awesome. So my feelings about it aren’t really necessarily valid, it’s just the fact that as an artist I can respect that he wears his feelings on his sleeve.”

Nas draws inspiration from his much-publicized divorce with ex-wife Kelis on the cover for his upcoming album, Life Is Good. Dressed in an all-white suit, Nas sits pondering on a couch with the last memory of Kelis in his lap, her green wedding dress she left after moving out. Back in April, Nas opened up for the first-time ever about their messy separation in his VH1 “Behind the Music” special. His tenth solo album arrives on July 17 supported by the singles “The Don” and “Daughters.”

The special features appearances from Common, Q-Tip, Russell Simmons, Large Professor, and members of Nas’ family.

damn, this got a bit reflective….in the second part of Nas’ interview on the Tim Westwood Show this week, he talks about love and marriage, and more specifically, the dissolution of his marriage to Kelis**.

It’s tough, brah, But I dive in…I goes in. I still think marriage is a beautiful thing. But you gotta be strong to weather the ups and downs. I had great hopes. I thought we was gonna do it. But 2 people gotta become 1 mind. 2 people think about life different and you just grow in different directions. But I had a good time, I had a great time (Tim: And you have a beautiful son)…yeah, shout out to my son, Knight. He’ll be 1 tomorrow.

I need more kids, I love kids. I need more. I’m not done. I need more. Imma have an army. You got kids? (Tim: No.) You playin’, man…(Tim: Blanks.) Nah, you just know kids mean paper. These girls crazy out here. Pick the right one….”

(**Who seems to have fully moved on, since I saw her hugging a handsome football player by the Pinkberry the other day, lol)

Nas and Kelis were in an LA courtroom today and according to TMZ, Kelis confirmed that she and Nas tried to reconcile back in September but it didn’t work out. “She’s also talking about the difficulty she has earning money — because with a new kid and not a lot of job options outside the music business, it’s tough out there.” (However, Kelis did recently sign to Will I Am’s label).

Nas took the stand to answer charges that he hasn’t been making his payments. He told Kelis’ lawyer that he thought he was up to date. He also asked for overnight visits with his infant son, Knight.

But in the end: “The judge just ordered Nas to pay $40,454 in spousal support and $10,647 in child support. And, Nas must pay disso-queen Laura Wasser’s attorney’s fees, to the tune of $46,022.”

Is that monthly? If so…cha-ching.

So on Monday, Nas and Kelis were in club Marquee together, and folks wondered if it was just a fluke coincidence…apparently not! The next night, the separated couple (and their newborn son) were affectionate and very much together at the opening of celeb hair stylist Anthony Dickey’s Hair Rules salon. As ugly as things got in this past few months, this is a surprising but positive development. (see more at YBF)

(so what of that other girl down in Virginia? Did she get the boot?)

The day after Kelis gives birth to Knight Jones, a judge orders Nas to pay some hefty child and spousal support…

The Associated Press reports:
A judge [Judge Louis Meisinger] has ordered Nas to pay Kelis nearly $44,000 in monthly support for the near future…
The two have been sparring over support payments for several months, with Kelis contending that Nas hasn’t paid many of the costs of her pregnancy and her expenses. Nas’ attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, told the judge that the rapper has paid some expenses and the former couple’s health insurance has been maintained.

Kaplan proposed paying Kelis a one-time payment of $20,000 until the judge could settle on an appropriate spousal and child support amount at a later hearing.

Meisinger rejected that offer, saying more money per month would be needed to accommodate Kelis’ lifestyle and was warranted based on income declarations filed with the court.

Note: this report seems to say that this is a preliminary ruling, but it probably doesn’t help that Nas was reportedly less than proactive after Kelis’ early filings. Also, the state of Cali is the “she took half” state, right? The fact that Kelis and Nas were married seems like it’s also a big factor, as opposed to Diddy vs. Kim Porter’s alleged $20k ruling, and 50 Cent vs Shaniqua’s $6,700 a month ruling.

(PS: somewhere, out there, Carmen just put a hole in the drywall)
