Dave Chappelle’s string of shows at New York’s Radio City Music Hall have been as much about the music than they have the laughs. Just when you thought Kanye’s appearance last Friday would be the biggest surprise of his residency, Yasiin Bey returned Stateside to reunite with his partner-in-rhyme Talib Kweli during Dave’s final set last night. The Black Star duo performed classic cuts like “Definition,” “Redefinition” and “History,” while Bey also performed “Umi Says” and covered Biggie’s “Juicy.” Later, it was a reunion for Reflection Eternal as Talib brought out Hi-Tek to play “The Blast.”
Bey’s appearance, of course, contradicts earlier reports that he had been denied entry back into the United States. The festival Together Boston claimed that the Brooklyn rapper had been forced to cancel his brief U.S. tour due to “immigration/legal issues.” However, as Complex points out, a South African newspaper has revealed that Bey was not banned from America, but had instead “moved the dates” because of scheduling conflicts.
