Wyclef holds Haiti crisis press conference: “Have I made mistakes before? Yes. Did I use Yéle money for personal gains? Absolutely not…”

Wyclef Jean held a tearful press conference on Monday to share some of his harrowing experiences in Port-au-Prince’s earthquake destruction area, and he also addressed some of the questions about his charity Yele Haiti’s accounting…
“Accusations have been made about me and about Yele…Have I made mistakes before? Yes,” “Did I use Yéle money for personal gains? Absolutely not. YEle’s books are open. We have a clean bill of health from an auditor…..my people are dying, I have to go back to the ground for a mission relief.“

Those are not run by black men who, conincidentally, are rappers. That’s the worst combination to racist whites (the conscious as well as the unconscious ones), namely black male and rapper.

Its sick how clef is geting attacked when he was doing work in hati for if not more damn near a decade.
yele was founded before the earthquake.
i also find it interesting that the salvation army and the red cross had a drop in donations due to the recession and now that hati is in its situation
only cash is recommended and not supplies, if during katrina the red cross had warehouses of unused supplies that WAS NOT giving to the people and bush moms made the comment that these people sleepin in a football statium is a step up from there everyday lives then imagine whats real aid is gonna be done to a people that live in the poorest nation in the western hemisphere.

It was reported on several news reporters, That 75 percent was donated and 25 percent was for his personal admin. Nobody, is trying to knock him down, but wyclef c’mon man don’t use the trick psychology, a publicist will tell you, to start off sobering stories in haiti’s tragedy and then sneak your way in to tell people you make mistakes and that yele’s money is not being touch. Wyclef if you were trying to steal please stop and continue to help. We all know your frantic, you started as afugee talking normal to others with no accent, once that was finished, your status was going downhill. Whookid got haitian to standup in ny and allover. Suddenly, you broke a fake haitian accent and started to make reggae tunes, what a front, don’t lure haitan people to buy your music, don’t pull that arab money stunt move too.

Ignorant bastards makes me sick. Not one of those organizations can vouch for where the money goes. Even if only 75% was donated thats more that 90% or the other organization. did you hear that red cross donates 11 cents out of each dollar?… In all organizations free or non prophet you have to pay or supply for the crews that are spending their time , their is no such thing as free everything is at a cost

@ itneed2besaid All that was a load of nonsense, if you do not want to text YELE to 501-501.
You can text The American Red Cross text HAITI to 90999.
Wyclef was physically there as soon as this happened and we’ve seen him and his family lend a helping hand.
This is not the time for raising propaganda for your own entertainment. I know your accustomed to TMZ, celebrity gossip e.t.c but there is more to life than that garbage.
There are lives at stake and it’s a all hands on deck sitiation. Attack Wyclef as much as you want as soon as things are stable in Haiti.
One thing you need to remember is your roof could cave in on you too due too terrorist attacks, earthquakes e.t.c so if you found out you needed help and people such as yourselves were on the internet posting ignorance how would you feel.

I was just pointing it outhere, morons, I stated news reporters, not me, wipe the fog off your bi-phocles and off them unappropriate websites. If he felted tempted to steal by seeing money flowing in, stop the nonsense don’t do it and just continue to help. Its like standing next to a money river seeing all that money flowing by, You will feel tempted to take it and don’t lie cause you’ll be full of it. I’m not labeling wycelf as bad guy at all. Plus no news is trying to knock him, its just news. This is what happen, one of his associates/worker/friend sold out to the press to leak information about wyclef schemes. Or vice a versa the press hunted down there story to make it a headline, the press do whatever it takes offers/bribes etc to make news. You (all replyers) didn’t know that cause your not real just textbook, but I had to school you, and now its time for you to stop beating the hardcover and step into the real world, son. GOD BLESS to the people in haiti and let’s continue to help

Clef has a good heart and Im sure he desperately wants to help but as the Yele president, Hugh Locke, said they are not “a relief organization” and trying an on-the-fly transition from years of doing very good community building works to urgent needs is not easy for anyone especially a relatively small organization like Yele. Their hearts have gotten them in over their heads

its not one organization, country, or people that will be rebuilding haiti we need to look at yele for what it can offer … which is a connection with the haitian people.
if clef is doin anything wrong … i perceive it as letting his confidence show as … arrogance … he should put that in a song and leave it out of pr

we must remember Haiti has gotten over RAPE after Rape after Rape … so the international community acting empathetic naturally comes off as … suspicious … to build these people back up psychologically … we need Yele.

@itneed2besaid – wow
He made a mistake by taking business deductions against foundation revenues. We all make mistakes, as we are human. He needs to just apologize, learn from it, and move on with the aid effort.

The sad thing about all this is whether or not it is true, the losers are the people in Haiti. I believe Clef, not because I know him personally but because of the timing of the attacks.

I still support Yele Haiti, as well as the Red Cross, Unicef, & the Salvation Army. I just have faith GOD puts my money to those who needed it most. Im not interested in the politics, just feels its my duty to my GOD to support others in crisis, especially since my life has never been through the suffering as what they’re going through in Haiti. Im definitly proud of my Country coming together to help others, feels good to be American right now

Im Def Suprised at the care … but if this happened under the last presidency [... No issue infusion ...] it would’ve been hell on earth instantly … so … proud? … idk … happy yes,,,but not proud >>> people care,,, but I’m not sure they care enough … i can say Im koo with the American part … but dude tho … [... no disrespect or nuthin ...] … you should research a lil which organizations you donate too … you can have good faith in your donation … only … if you trust the charity you donated to … your brain has to make all that happen tho … you can’t always wing shit ,,, especially in situations concerning mass death … look up doctors without borders … there name has been repeated the most from what i perceive … you need to do that to properly pull your weight ya digg lol

Ask yourself a question .If wyclef was not doing good by the Haitian people do you really think he will be welcome like a king everytime he goes out there?
Yele has been going on for a long time nobody questioned anything back then when the man was helping out putting kids in school , giving out free stuffs for the poor families in Haiti now it’s a problem all the sudden.
come on people open your eyes a bit.
do your own homework and you will actually find out that UNICEF (functioning cost) is more than what it actually give out in helping countries in need.
Wyclef merci pour tout ce que tu fais pour le peuple

I would rather give my money and support to YELE.org than a single red cent to the Red Cross after 9-1-1 and Katrina. I’ve learned my lesson. Of course the folks that are questioning Clef’s integrity are “dark” folks within these organizations who are non-profit whores. If you think the “industry” is grimy, you don’t know the half when you’re talking about philantrophy. Folks will get ignorant for grant and donor dollars. Clef needs to armor up for this battle with the “new” gangstas of the disenfranchised community “the exploiters of the wretched”

i met Clef back in 1995 with Lauryn Hill and i told them “yo you ripped the stage like krs 1 do” and they did it for free.
it was so much energy and passion and hunger from the fugee’s that i knew i had to support them when they album dropped and ive been a fan since.
my point is i always heard Clef representing HAITI to the fullest, hince the name “FUGEES” refuges> buffalo soidiers-dreadlock rasta’s> pras verse
but anyways he aint “FAKE”
