Which Rapper Should Be Most Pissed Off by Complex’s “30 Best Rappers in Their 30s” List?
Posted by Miss Info under about miss info , beef , good for hip hop , laugh at , outrage , quotes[75] Comments
Oh, I know my pals at Complex are kickin’ back with their microbrews and their fancy sneaker-dress shoe hybrids having a good laugh today. They posted another list, this time ranking the “30 Best Rappers In Their 30′s.” And like death and taxes, outrage was imminent.
I’ve saved you some clicking and refreshing, without giving away all the 30 names…
Let’s go over some of the rankings…
And discuss, which rapper do you think is the most pissed off right now?
After the jump
So here are the top 10 on the Complex “30 Best Rappers in Their 30s”: (Click on the link to read their summary)
1) Eminem
2) Kanye
3) Nas
4) Andre 3000
5) Rick Ross
6) 2Chainz
7) Pusha-T
8) Danny Brown
9) Young Jeezy
10) Lupe Fiasco
So far, how does that list feel to you? Do you think that despite being #2, Kanye is still pissed? (Mind you, Lil Wayne is 29 years old, and Jay-Z is over 40 so they’re not on this list at all.) I like Danny Brown, but I wonder if his #8 spot has some of his fellow rappers grinding their veneers.
As for Joe Budden twitter fury (cosigned by Big Boi #11 and Young Jeezy #9, see above)…He is clearly pissed off because he got the #24 spot. His Slaughterhouse teammate Royce got #20, but Joell Ortiz isn’t included at all.
So do you think there are any other glaring omissions? Hast Joe Budden been forsaken? What about Lloyd Banks?
This guy is building a Complex Magazine bonfire right now? ; )

This list is way off. Some of are not ranked high or low enough…Some should not be on the list at all. Budden def should be top ten.

The saughterhouse album was buzzing, the vibe was good, they were getting close big things and then he started talking about meth over some list, got backlash, then got punched in the face and boom thats IT!!! the good vibes gone!

@Kreole.. no you can’t. Even if you did, nobody would co-sign that nonsense. Yes, Nas is great. Everyone would agree. You might could name two Nas albums that play in the same ballpark as the Eminem Show, but none that outshine it.

The whole list is a joke. Your pals at complex should must be having a slow news day and tried to create some.
Here is my list of people who should be most pissed off.
-Anyone ranked under Danny Brown. (Except 2 Chainz)
And how 2 Chainz has become so relevant beats me. I haven’t been impressed by a single line of his ever.

Don’t really see many omissions…
TI being #21 was interesting. Especially when Juicy J, Danny Browm, and El-P all landed inside the top 20 or less. Tip is better than all 3. How does Danny Brown make the top 10??
What has he done to warrant that?
And how old is Raekwon? Beanie Seigal?

I personally think Nas shoulda been over Kanye, especially because of the album he just released… He is on top of his game.
3 of the people in top 10 are GOOD music or GOOD affiliated. 2Chainz in the top 10? Are u serious? Pusha T?!? WTF is Pusha even doing in the top 10?
There is absolutely no way Danny Brown should be in the top 20… I’m sorry that’s just BS in my eyes.
I can understand Ross in the top 10 because he is really hot in the streets right now so whatever… I won’t argue that.
Luda not high enough, TI.. OMG they did him a serious in justice. I aint really a Camron fan but he should have been higher. Joe Budden and Royce Da 5’9 could have been higher for sure, EVERBODY in Slaughterhouse is spitting maaad ill right now… The question is, did Slaughterhouse do something to piss off Complex?
Because truthfully u can see that the Top 10 is largely about who is popping and/or who got an album coming out.
Niggaz can hate on Jeezy being there but Jeezy’s last album that came out in Dec did 1st week numbers better than Rick Ross’ GFID and Ross is killing the game… So Jeezy has to get credit for that. I can turn on 99 Jamz right now and I’m probably gonna hear that Jeezy and Neyo.
I know I may catch some flack for this but why do ppl always get pissed when Banks gets left out… Dude is nice but his voice is annoying and if you really really think about it any guest verse Banks has done in the last 3-4 years, I could easily name 15 rappers who woulda spit something more memorable. Banks has got to be the internet’s most over rated rapper to me.
Ok let’s be real… EVERY Rapper in from #20-30 is better than 2Chainz, Danny Brown, Juicy J and El-P. Let’s talk about that!
And if Method Man was nicer than Joe Budden’s before, then where the hell is he on this list… Redman? The entire Wu? Are all these guys over 40? Imma have to check wiki or somn.
Honestly the Top 10 on this list seems like when they sat down to talk about the list, they asked each other “who is hot in the streets and the internet that’s over 30″ and then they gave them the Top 10 and added the rest after. Ridiculous!
And I have to say this… ANYBODY fighting out Big Boi at #11 obviously didn’t listen to Sir Lucious Left Foot. I could put that shit in right now and let it play from track 1, all the way thru. Big Boi on a technical and skill level is a top 10 contender in my eyes… I’m just saying if this is based on best rappers in their 30′s, rapping skill… Big Boi is nice a fuck.
Fuck a lifestyle magazine putting together a Hip Hop list when who ever had final decisions obviously doesn’t have a fucking clue what they are talking about.

In the argument for #1…. Nas and Eminem could have tied and I would have been ok with that.
Say what you want about Eminem’s albums over the last half-decade, in Relapse and Recovery. Relapse was ass and Recovery was a good recovery in my eyes, even though it was so much more Poppy but it was the exact opposite of Relapse.
If you watched that last BET cypher, then u know Em has got to be up there…
Nas post Def Jam hasn’t missed in my eyes… Hip Hop is Dead was needed… The untitled album was sooooo ill, America neeeeded to hear those truths. His collaboration with Damian Marley “Distant Relatives” was an album bigger than Hip Hop and Reggae, that’s a classic no matter what your personal taste. “Life is Good” is solid Hip Hop and with grown man swag.. Dude did a song about his daughter that’s more relevant than anything 2Chainz can come out with period! He showed something we don’t get enough of on that album.
It shoulda been a tie, although after typing this out, Nas may have had more clout for #1 than Em… Damn lol

They come wit the list based on whos in the spotlight right now, the old faithfuls, n whoever else comes to mind!
“ummm ummm Oh what about that guy OH n what him too!!”
An then they leave it to the real fans and the rappers to hash it out n make sense of it.

To make it easier I don’t think Jeezy, 2 chainz, rick ross, danny brown (who i love but should should not be in the top 10), or even Kanye should be top ten. What about underground artists who dont get any recognition like Elzhi, Reks, Tech N9ne, Pharoahe Monch? Dey fuccced up on dis one. And they have all these veterans in the 20s and 30s on this list. Nas number 1 to me nobody rapping like him at his age.

I think Black Thought is a glaring omission.
There aren’t 21 rappers in their 30′s better than Jadakiss (I’m lookin’ at YOU 2 Chainz!) and no matter how good Danny Brown might be, there’s now a group of people that hate him on GP.
Reply
August 9th, 2012 at 10:59 pm
A few points I must say:
1) I had no idea Fab was that old, lol. But he needs to be ranked higher.
2) 2 Chainz & Danny Brown (I’ve really never heard of this guy till now – maybe I’m too old myself) don’t deserve to be on this list.
3) Pharell is too high on this list for me… If he should be on this list then it should be # 30 or 29 (that’s as high as I would place him).
4) Jadakiss, TI, Luda, and Joe Budden need to be bumped up some spots.
But to each, his own. I don’t give Complex’s hip-hop lists/reviews too much weight.

One of my favorite stories is that my friends were out and a man came up to them and said he just got done giving back shots to Joe Budden.
For real tho, why is Slaughter House relevent? This is a group of rappers who had their shot and there was no audience for them and so the labels put them all together. Royce is a good rapper, same with Crooked I. Joell has that happy to be recognized attitude.
But really you see guys like Skyzoo in nyc all the time getting refused from venues and treated like crap, but he had a 9th wonder mixtape. So it’s like I am really concerned where people’s tastes are at.

As with any other Complex list, this one was just a forced article to generate traffic to their website and buzz around their brand. It’s nothing new (and it works every time lol).
I don’t agree or disagree with the list because they never establish what they are speaking of when they say “best”. Best at what? Lyrics? Flow? Delivery? Sales? Tweeting? Media presence? Taking a shit? What? They are entitled to their opinion (if you even wanna call it that).
Btw, I’m pretty confident that Kanye has no problem standing second to Eminem.
