When Making It Rain goes very wrong: Jermaine Dupri and the Pacman Jones/ESPN video
Posted by Miss Info under Uncategorized , crime , life beyond rap , not good for hip hop , not good for humanity , ugh , videos[36] Comments
ESPN revisited their original report about the night football star Adam Pacman Jones partied at a Las Vegas stripclub during NBA All-Star Weekend 2007, and dropped up to $100,000 on the floor, alongside folks like Jermaine Dupri and Nelly…Soon afterward three people were shot outside of the club.
In Feb 2010, a man named Arvin Edwards will stand trial for the shootings. This video will likely be played in court. But the key witness will be Pacman Jones…who changed his testimony last fall and picked Edwards out of a lineup as the shooter. (read more here)
But meanwhile, Jermaine Dupri responsed to the ESPN report with headsmacking nonchalance…
“It might be stupid to you, but this is what we do…We eat, we kick it, we throw money. Don’t make this one situation blow the whole thing out.”
more after the jump….

Now I know JD been had money and he’s always in Atlanta ( I.e. “welcome to atlanta”) but him talking bout that’s how “we” do in the ATL seemed kinda off. Like he was overacting maybe I’m crazy but is JD reaching a Lil hard for the southern rap popularity when’s the last time JD music was categorized as south.?!

So Slugga is goin to seat there accept $10K for potentially doing life in prison, while Pac Man spends $100K on strippers?
I ain’t got a problem with whatever people spend in strip clubs, if I could I’d own one and let them make it rain in my establishment. I like strippers too, they excite and put a smile on my face but i’m not spending more than 40 X $1.

Hannah Storm ain’t much to look at, but I melt whenever she shows her legs on Sportscenter.
As for the story, it’s good to have some more detail on the situation. I figured Vegas strippers would have more discipline. I was wrong.

dumb ass black.(i’m black too so i’ll say it) make all the excuses that you want but i just watched anderson cooper talk to a haitian girl who is effectively a fukin slave/indentured servant.
a slave! these dumb rich blacks throw this cash around in a strip club and a girl in haiti is a fukin slave. do i hold them to a different standard? yes. do i really give a fuk if bill gates or paul allen purchases a kandinsky or a rothko? no and yes. either way, it’s fukin disgusting to me to see a black man behave like pacman and jd and any other black that does this ignorant stuff. try giving two fuks about humanity for once. if that’s their entire life what will they do when they’re 67 years old? or older? fukin clowns.

stubling over my points? really.
ok.
0. do i ironically like to use the term “blacks”? yes because it sounds racist and funny especially since i am black.
1. black men that blow 100k on strippers are morons.
2. do i hold them to a higher standard yes.
3. do i expect bill gates to care about poor blacks? no. however he speaks-out more than jd or kobe bryant.(tracie mcgrady is doing good things)
4. if their mid-adult life consists of wasting money on strippers what will their lives be like as senior citizens?
5. last time i checked my grandpa wasn’t trying to make it rain when he was alive.
6. therefore i believe them to be fukin clowns.
got it?

ok your obviously a prude, I would chalk it up to being young an immature your making a broad generalization.
This shows that you have no depth and you sir are the moron.
Nothing about this is cool but you can’t paint a broad brush like you just did. I’m sorry your argument is neither reasonable or prudent. You might as well be Al Sharpton or some old fart popping off in the barbershop.
Hey Einstein there in a fucking strip club! Nothing ethical goes on in a strip club if the amount of money is what concerned you and what will they do at age 60 or older you might wanna die now because something tells me your a real debbie downer and my guess your a real firecracker at a party (not) you probably fuck up wet dreams. hey Mr. wet blanket stop throwing stones your not Jesus. so tell me this. if jd or pacman decided to spend 100k on new computers and books for kids in atl or haiti or india or anyfukin where in the world don’t you think that would do more good than putting it all up strippers’ butts?

eliminate JD from the conversation because he’s not relevant. Now Pacman at the time was 23. My argument is you would be hard pressed to see any 23 year old, who even knew or cared about the plight of Haiti. Let alone a brotha who obviously spent is formidable years looking up to rappers and videos he watched on BET and MTV. Hell I played football in college. BET stays on heavy rotation in a college dorm day room. Your holding him to a standard no one can live up too. Especially 2 years removed from college. Just don’t throw blanket statements out on a blog for cheap applauds from the peanut gallery. There are people on here who look at issues like this and know that there way more intricate. No ones saying what Pacman did was right or even that it was moral. Yeah making it rain is lewd, but there in a strip club not a church social. What do think they do at strip clubs, read hems muthafucka!!
Before you get on a soap box and screaming about what good they do in there community an how that money could be served better. Ask him that question when he hits 27,28 when maybe his mind state will be totally different. All this grandiose self righteous speech really annoys me, because lord knows it’s always the closet sinners who seem to be the high and mighty. I see strippers and hookers and pimps and pushers all over the sunset strip when I walk outside daily. The sex trade is as American as apple pie. So is preachers who molest little boys and your bullshit argument you laid up there thinking no one would call you on it. Before you worry about someone else’s ethical dilemmas or Darfur or Haiti or what ever you shitting out this week. Work on your own house first.

Things he uses to demonstrate he’s ‘living the life’
1. he’s dressed up in a hotel room
2. he’s purposefully smoking a cigar in front of camera
JD’s arguments:
1. Why hate on other people’s dreams? Just as you (‘rightfully’) dream about getting a Ferrari, other n1ggas dream about making it rain on hoes. It’s a status symbol in ATL, and we all got our defintions of status symbol, so don’t knock other people’s fun.
2. “Stupid” is completely relative. Just like swallowing nails. YOU might think it’s stupid, but nail-swallowers don’t think so.
Bottom line: NIGNORANCE!!!!!!!
Truth is, JD doesn’t give a shit if the girls start fighting over the money, now or later. He just wants them to keep dancing and not interrupt ‘the moment’. Because you can’t shake ass as well when you’re picking up the money being thrown at you.
The whole shit is just mindblowingly immoral. I’m not even on the religion tip at all, but this is just some bottom-of-the-barrel type shit. Degrading for both sexes involved. Jermaine Dupri probably smell like asscheeks underneath all that fancy clothing.
Like Chris Rock said: “you may be rich, but you certainly aint wealthy.” and at the rate you’re going at JD, your grandkids may have to fight to share a bowl of cereal.

I am a bit confused on why that video was on ESPN? Pac Man is not in the NFL anymore and I didn’t see any other athletes in the video. I guess every news/entertainment organization has an agenda.

Info there beating a dead horse and it reeks of the new subtle racism that goes on in sports news. A new battle ground in the culture wars.
Plain an simple this story is old and its constantly being re hashed to scare people.

Pacman had the 6 yr. contract worth like $20-30 million at this time. Then this happened and he lost almost all of that. Next he signed with the Cowboys for like $1 million. Whenever I blow $$$ I like to think about Vick and Pacman b/c they blew 10’s of millions they must feel like zeros. I do wish Vick the best though, he got screwed worst then anybody ever has.

I never said JD was not making it rain in the clubs.. I said it looks to me like he’s trying to hard in his hotel blog. I know he got dough but I think it’s the 22 year old slick talk coming from a middle aged producer that makes it seem like he’s reaching. If you replaced JD with Lil Jon in the video blog it would have felt more authentic. Reguardless of how relevent Jon is nowadays.

Just when I assumed J.D had some class, this footage gives me more insight to how really lost in the moment J.D seems. I am a subscriber of his living the life you tube channel, and obviously I just see a big kid that loves what he does for a living and just gave us some behind the scenes of his regular activities. But why live in a strip club , just to throw money around and live for the moment?
Maybe I’m just an average Joe, but that’s just inconceivable to me. Write off or not that’s drawing way too much attention. As unfamiliar as the Atlanta social life is to me, that’s an out cry for attention or lack of esteem.
Pardon my reading into this topic way to deep. Just had to get that off my chest

no, I agree. I think partying with abandon is great. But the concept of throwing money away, not for the service provided, but just to make other ppl watch you throw money away….reminds me of those commercials with the guy and the bags of money and the leafblower?
just moronic.

Look strippers put in a lot of good work, so it’s only right that donations are made.
After all, donations are a tax write off!

lol a tip is 20%….so even a generous tip on a $20 dance should be $5. NOT…..$50,000!

Ok I think its time for me to go down the list considering most of the people on this site are hip hop heads and watch sports like maybe never.
First off I actually giggled when they put rap star and Jermaine Dupri together because he hasn’t had a hit since 2001 with that Jagged edge and Nelly cut Where the party at. With that said Mr Dupri really isn’t relevant anymore an has not been for YEARS!!
Point 2. A man should be able to grow an mature. This was 2 years ago folks Pacman is an entirely different man. At 23 I did a few things that were quite grimey, but i’m glad they dont define me for my entire life. Geez The problem with this story is its all sensationalized right down to her repeated parental warnings at the beginning. Really The internet has 2 girls one cup and Youporn cut the bullshit out.
point 3. If you watch ESPN its slowly turning into fox news 2, with shows like around the horn, The sports reporter, outside the lines. All of these shows have one thing in common. A group of old white male sports reporters getting there jollies off making fun of young black athletes calling them stupid and dumb an sounding like bitter old farts when someone like T.O. or Chad Johnson gives a provocative sound bite. The NFL already dealt with this issue ESPN is merely piling attempting to influence Gadel the Commissioner.
I love sports, but with this new TMZ slash Access Hollywood opinionated news makes it harder and harder to watch sports center to see my favorite highlights.
Point 4. Jermaine Dupri rebuttal had a similar tone that seems to be filtering through Atlanta. After reading the Pinky post where she made excuses for the Lil Wayne,Drake, BET fiasco. I’m seeing a pattern developing. Either Atlanta has a culture that allows you to just not get it. Or they get it and don’t care enjoy spreading the ignorance across our culture with a wink and a shrug and hoping your moral compass is just as broke as theirs has become.
I don’t see anything wrong with making it rain in the club at 23. If your 40 like Jermain Dupri is that shits just sad.

I don’t understand the lure of strip clubs. Spending all that money for some hood rat chicks to dance for you. Making it rain may be a status symbol, but it also makes you look like a sucker for hos.
