What’s Beef?: Jimmy Kimmel disses Leno….On Leno’s own show!! (aka “F–k Yo’ Couch!”)
Posted by Miss Info under beef , good for me , headcrack , high point 2010 , laugh at , life beyond rap , quotes , videos[57] Comments
These Late Night Talk Show Wars are getting crazy! I mean there was Conan’s Jerry Maguire mission statement. There were the snarky sneak disses from Conan and Letterman. Leno was playing the goofy aww-shucks role. Kimmel was watching and eating popcorn.
Now it seems like the social niceties are breaking down….with Jimmy Kimmel and Chevy Chase spoofing Leno and Conan last night…with rumors of Leno finalizing his takeover deal and NBC chief Jeff Zucker allegedly threatening to put Conan on ice for years …and with Leno allegedly throwing his first shots at Conan tonite…
But nothing prepared me for the incredible awkwardness of this…..Jay Leno actually had Jimmy Kimmel on the Jay Leno Show for the “10 (questions) at 10″ segment. And Kimmel went at Leno’s neck! (clip via Gawker, thnx to Mel on the assist!)
Bottom line…Hey rappers, step your beef game up.
(PS: if Leno, Conan, Kimmel, Letterman, (that Scottish guy and those two other guys who shouldnt be there) were this entertaining all the time….they wouldn’t be in this predicament in the first place.)
And Letterman also got his Leno jab in too….ugly ugly ugly!…after the jump

actually that’s not true….People were definitely watching Letterman. And both Leno in primetime and Conan’s Tonight Show were struggling.

Oh and Miss Info, that scottish guy is Craig Ferguson, he’s funny as hell too.

Jay held a better time slot for years which means more people are still awake watching and THAT means he gets “better” guests. Letterman is hilarious and I don’t know if I’m just getting older but he gets funnier to me every year. Conan’s brand of humor is so unique and so left field that it would be a disservice to this world if he wasn’t on air. The reason we have so many hosts is because the humor covers all angles..except for Carson. Conan’s angle is very important because he sets himself so far apart from the rest and he’s not even trying.

I feel horrible for Conan. And I’m a really big Conan fan. Thank goodness I got to see him do his old late show in NYC before he bounced to LA. NBC is literally destroying a legacy and there’s no way to clean it up @ this point.
I’m very curious if Leno had some secret clause in his contract early on that stated if Conan’s ratings weren’t good, he could pull a bully move and take the Tonight Show back (that only the execs knew about). Or if he straight up went to the NBC execs and whine because HIS show was sucking ass. Either way, it’s wack.
Granted, Conan can’t do alot of the same bits he did on Late Night with Conan O’Brien cuz he’s on an hour earlier. And when Conan first started on Late Night, it took him a LONG time to finally warm up and get to the point he’s @ now. You can’t gauge the popularity of a show after 7 months. NBC’s ratings as a WHOLE are in the toilet.
Conan will be bounce back from this and be as popular as ever. And I’m sure he’ll be financially stable after they hit him off with that check after they tell him to kick rocks. But it’s still wack. But I can’t wait for his return…wherever that may be.
RIP Johnny Carson & Ed McMahon. Wacky wild stuff.

honestly….its all on NBC. They cheated Letterman out of getting the Tonite Show (which he probably should have). They booted Leno for Conan. Then didn’t give Conan enough time…but also, Conan didn’t really adjust well to his new gig. The show didn’t evolve from Late Night, it was just softer.

I don’t see the awkwardness. When you have $800 million, you can afford to not take yourself that seriously.
But anyway, you have two comedians going at each other that can still be cool with each other afterwards. It’s not unheard of. Ever see a roast?

OK, I just watched it again … and, no. Whatever you took as being tight was really just his trademark terrible delivery and timing.
Why would he plan this and allow this segment if he didn’t know what to expect? He, along with the rest of the populaion that watches late nite tv, knows how Kimmel can get. The questions were so tailor-made to elicit these types of jabs

ACTUALLY if you ever listen to Adam Carolla you’d know that outside of the show Kimmel, Leno, and Carolla are good friends. They go to Kimmels house on sundays to watch football. This is all for ratings. Behind the scenes the HOSTS of the shows dont make the decisions. Its the exects and the sponsors that say whats going to happen.

I have to agree I was just at a function for the New Marriott in Downtown LA. Jay and Jimmy where both there. Jay wanted him to roast him he wants the buzz and Jimmy is known for what he does. He even let Jay have some more that night and Jay laughed. 800 million is an easy cushion for the ego. The wounded ego is Conan because he invested so much. I hope he stays in LA but I doubt it.

All of this newfound public outcry for Conan reminds me of all of the love Slaughterhouse was getting from the internet yet when it came time to support the group by going to the store or going to itunes to get the CD, not alot of people came out to support. They should have just let Conan go before he signed his new contract that had him getting the Tonight Show initially. Now he’s still going to leave but now NBC has all of this negative press attached to the situation. Are people going to punish Jay by not watching the Tonight Show when he gets it? If only all of this NBC backroom dealings were scripted. Conan’s stock just grew considerably. If NBC don’t try and put him on ice for over a year, Coco will back on TV before you know it.

Everything is set up for Conan to be a major player in the late night battle. Since Leno is going to take back the Tonight Show, that means Conan will be done at NBC sometime next month. He should use the remaining time he has on the air to do the kind of comedy he wants to do with no reservation. Take the gloves off! Give people a glimpse of what they’ve been missing all of these years after midnight. And having Howard Stern on the show would be a step in the right direction. He’s got the entire country looking at him and the show. What is he going to do with all of the attention he’s getting? Need more Triumph, Pimpbot, the Interuptor, find Abe Vigota, etc. Make NBC regret having him leave the show.

Leno snaked Letterman for the Tonight Show. The dude has no shame, I just can’t understand why NBC did the full-court-press with the farewell to Jay thing, then brought him back, then shoved Conan out the door. Sure, Conan has been rocky on the Tonight Show but Jay is just corny.

People on this blog are gonna like conan bcuz they are young. The reason for conan’s low ratings are all the old people in middle america. I send we send them and leno to estonia. It was nice to see kimmel be funny lately I think he’s going for a bigger slice of the pie with all the fighting over at NBC.

Miss Info while I normally agree with your posts and opinions on things, the scottish guy you are referring to is Craig Ferguson and he is easily funnier than a majority of the late night hosts. Fallon, Leno and Conan since his move to 11:30 are all significantly less funny than Craig.
He’s got no set, no band, no script or games or whatever. He essentially preforms 1 hour of stand up every night. To boot he usually gets awful guests and he still makes it fun.
I no who u find funny is subjective but I think he deserves another shot.
