Well, Joaquin, you would probably suck as a rapper anyways

The must-read Entertainment Weekly blog reports:
“Two people close to Joaquin Phoenix tell EW that the actor’s recent attempt to reinvent himself as a rapper is not what it appears to be.
Ever since the actor announced he was ditching his career in movies to try to make it as a rap artist, speculation has flown wildly about what, exactly, the two-time Oscar nominee might be thinking. Following his widely panned three-song debut as a rapper at a Las Vegas nightclub on Jan. 16 — a shambling performance that concluded with the actor falling off the stage — two competing theories emerged: Either Phoenix is perpetrating an elaborate Andy Kaufman-style hoax…or he’s truly lost his marbles. The truth, it seems, is closer to the former. “He said, ‘It’s a put-on. I’m going to pretend to have a meltdown and change careers, and Casey [Affleck] is going to film it,‘” says one source who recently worked with Phoenix.”
“It’s an art project for him,” says a source. “He’s going full out. He probably has told his reps that he’s quit acting. Joaquin is very smart. This is very conscious. He has a huge degree of control.”
I think Joaquin should be more appreciative of the acting talent that he was blessed with and the options he has been afforded because of that talent. Fake dismissing that blessing, and instead mocking hip hop should backfire on him. Plus, Joaquin has never been funny or satirical, like Ben Stiller or Sacha Baron-Cohen. If anything he’s borderline Crispin Glover-creepy.

Just another example of using hip-hop as a vessel for lame attempts at satire or comedic relief. Ugh.

Cuz nobody takes rap seriously. It’s been a joke for years, but now it’s like an on going SNL skit.
I’m not too sure if Joaquin has ever had all his marbles lol. But you could tell this was a joke from the jump. Not a good one, but a joke none the less.

His publicity machine is the joke! Notice how this only came out AFTER he fell off the stage and was widely considered a freakish spectacle anyway. Peep game, he seems like one of those off the wall cats that would go off serious into a venture like that (emcee) and then when he bombs, his people (publicists etc…) have to mop up his bloody messes.
It’s all very ‘Almost Famous’ to me.
FUCK’ EM ALL.

Yeah, that dude is creepy!
I think he is jealous of how much hip-hop has grown, and in some cases some rappers turned actors have more movie industry power than he and other use-to-be A-list actors.
Hip-hop is invading his space and he can’t stand it. So, he is trying to invade hip-hop. Not going to work Joaquin, its a whole different hustle in 2009.

I think it’s funny, and these days, there is EVERY reason to mock hip-hop.
And Crispin Glover rules. “River’s Edge???” Come on now!

Wow, if this is actually as the EW report says it is, then Joaquin sure had me fooled. I had actually put him on my “crazy celebs who you should never pester for an autograph” list

I really though Joaquin had fallen off the deep end this time, but turns out he was pulling our legs.
