Want to See Meek Mill and Cassidy Battle for $100,000?
Posted by Mikey Fresh under videos[14] Comments
Every the Summer Madness 2 event brought the rap battle back to the mainstream, there’s been talks of establishment artists getting into the ring. Fans in particular have been raving about seeing Meek Mill and Cassidy get into it for a real ‘King of Philly’ battle. Meek actually brought this on himself when he said he would to get back in to the battle circuit for the right price. He also said he would love to see Murda Mook and Cassidy spar up. And of course the Internets twisted his words around to “Meek says he wants to battle Cassidy for for a $100k.” Well, Cassidy heard about everything, and says he would gladly take on Meek if the money was right. He spoke to Q-Deezy about his stance on the situation.
Man I said I wanted mook & cassidy to battle…. Mook the king of that shit to me!

Even though blogs twisted his words, a Meek Mill vs. Cassidy battle would be pretty boring to me. As someone who is an AVID watcher of both URL/Smack & Queen of The Ring rap battles, I don’t think any established rapper (male or female) would survive against the battle rappers that are out now. The wave of battle rappers out now are just too seasoned and would make battling someone the likes of Cassidy, Meek Mill, Lloyd Banks, etc. look like child’s play. I’ve seen Meek Mill battles on youtube and as talented as he is, he wouldn’t survive 1 round against the likes of Tsu Surf, T-Rex, Hitman Holla, Conceited or O-Red.

I think the entire group of slaughterhouse could be battle rappers. Remember a high percentage of those rhymes are written and not freestyles. Jada, Hov, Kanye, Questlove, Andre 3000, Busta, Game, and a few others will be able to hold their own in a battle in my opinion.

I agree, the battle arena nowadays is too complex and advance for any mainstream artist to enter it and become successful. I feel like the battle artists you see on summer madness, grindtime etc. etc. are tailored made for battling unknown rappers and on the other hand cannot make hit music. In Contrast the same for mainstream artist, even if some of them come from a background of battling they eventually become song writers and consumed by song making and to fall back into the battling arena with these battle rappers in the battle arena… wouldn’t make them successful not only that would probably be an embarrassment. We’ve already seen rappers like Freeway battle Cassidy (when Freeway was already poppin and Cass was an upstart), and Canibus battle (I forgot his name) but he had to bring out the notebook.. The shit doesnt work..

My sentiments exactly! Each cadre of rappers should stick to what they know best. Battle rappers almost never transition into successful rap careers (see Murda Mook & Jae Millz). People keep saying that Cassidy could enter the battle rap arena and I strongly disagree since they only based it against his battle against Freeway which,in my opinion, wasn’t this “classic” people keep making it out to be. Canibus got his ass handed to him by Dizaster by the way. Like I mentioned before, battle rappers of today would slaughter any established artist in a 3-round battle .

I disagree, battle rappers are good because all they do is battle rap. That is how they get paid. It requires a lot of time and practice. They have this time because they aren’t making songs, making videos, performing, acting, fornicating with “models”, or buying lambos. There isn’t ANYTHING to gain or a ROI on time spent preparing for a battle as an industry rapper. It just doesn’t make cents (see what I did there…) Now if battle rapping became profitable as an additional cash flow (as Meek referred to), you would see 100K+ battles. The ROI would be worth the effort and time to prepare. Meaning industry rappers will need to win to keep that additional income stream. To us that means competition which equals entertaining!
There have been plenty of legit industry rappers that got into rap (see anyone from the 80′s) through battling. Did we forget Em came from battling? DMX? Jay? I can’t believe that if Eminem was given two months to prepare for a battle he wouldn’t be able to handle himself or win against ANY of the best battle rappers today. I would argue that ALL of the true industry lyricists of rap today had to hold their own in battles before they made it big.
When I use to live in New Orleans you could see Juvenile battling any and all locals on St Charles. He loved it….

I can definitely say I would love to see Meek and Cassidy battle but I don’t think Meek can really compete with Cassidy in a battle, that’s just my perspective. If seen some of Meek’s battles and he is decent but not nice enough to destroy Cass.
I also see that one getting a bit messy afta certain things are said.
Didn’t Mook and Cass battle already back in the day? I feel like I saw a video like dat already.. They were both outside with a HUGE crowd or maybe that was another Mook battle…

I’d rather see Meek battle BLACK THOUGHT. He’ll lose and it’ll be entertaining as hell to watch.

QDeezy trying to get in on some shitz Meek neva said he wanted to battle Cassidy. Meek is in a whole nother lane so it don’t even make sense for him to do it. For me personally Black Thought is the baddest MC to come out of Philly. And no I don’t wanna see him in a battle cause he don’t have nuthin to prove. Cassidy is nice and can probably take Meek but he gonna have to find another way to get a check. Oh yeah and Freeway i could listen to him all day everyday! Detroit and North Carolina got some nice rappers to. Battle rap is not for everybody and it damn sure don’t mean you gon be rich!
