Video: MTV’s When I Was 17: Swizz Beatz
Posted by Mr.North under Life Beyond Rap , Videos[4] Comments
North says: Here’s the full episode of the preview we posted earlier. Swizz speaks on growing up in the Bronx at 17 being inspired by artists such as Futura & Keith Haring and goes into how sad him and his brother were relocating to Atlanta. He also mentions growing up in Atlanta as the music scene was blossoming with TLC being at the forefront, selling mixtapes in barbershops which eventually lead him to getting a job in the shop and doing DJ gigs at school events, proms and eventually night clubs when he was still under age.
Props to Yardie

What a bullshitter. My dude, you grew up in the BX and were inspired by Keith Haring and Futura?? How does that work? There would have been real writers all around. Haring didn’t even paint trains, do your research before you talk shit. If you ask me he’s just throwing out names to appear as though he’s of a certain era… but he failed. Haring woulda died when he was like 7 and Futura barely wrote graffiti before he went gallery. Try again bro.

Nah dude, I hate it when people just shoot off with no substance (pause.) He’s straight making shit up and it smacks of insincerity across the board.

At the time he was 17 Futura was getting love on the NY art scene and also the general magazines.
Keith Haring is one of the few painters that hood folks knew about. Every time you would shop in a Village cheap art store where you would buy the traditional hood Godfather pics you could also buy Keith Haring works.
So, just because you didn’t know about it when you were a kid doesn’t mean he didn’t.
