Mikey: For the sake of Hip-Hop and Guru’s legacy, Sway sat down with Solar in MTV studios to discuss his relationship with the late emcee. Solar denies all rumors of the two being more than “friends”, and continues on with the lies. (personal opinion)

Solar also denied widespread rumors that he was involved in a romantic relationship with the MC.
“That’s untrue, completely unfounded,” he said. “Guru is a family man, I’m a family man. I don’t want to say anything against anybody living a certain type of lifestyle — everybody is free to live their life how they choose to live it — but that’s not my lifestyle or Guru’s lifestyle. We’re straight men. He dealt with women and family. I dealt with women and family. There’s never been any blurring of the lines whatsoever.”

“No blurring of the lines whatsoever.” Just the fact that dude would make a statement like that makes me think them two had something going on. Those words should not EVER pass through a straight dude’s mouth when discussing his relationship with his homey. I don’t have a problem with Guru doing his thing, although I would have preferred he chose someone who wasn’t an asshole.

First off I’m glad Sway asked the “Partner” question even if they arent gay it needed to be addressed…
After watching this I cant help but think that this dude Solar is just caught in the middle of a bad family beef and was so busy being loyal to the artist and being a super groupie that he didnt take a second to really process the fact that no matter what the deal is family will always be family and they should have been apart of that process at the first chance things didnt look good..You’d have to think that Guru being the type of guy that he is would have wanted that type of peace at the end or he’s a fraud all talk no action nigga…Which I strongly doubt.. Its either solar just caught up or he’s a damn good actor and has me fool’d…
This is just a bad all around look and no one will support any Guru legacy albums or lost verse album or retrospective of any degree if this guy is included or Premo is left out…And thats sad because this is money that will put his kid through college one day and help his family so its a mess…
The solar, premo stuff seems like dude wanting to control the musical end of things and make some money but the rest seems like a loyal soldier that was too stupid or fiercely loyal to really put the situation in context…

@big reply….this is one of the first comments,out of the many i’ve read that took at least a somewhat objective point of view….i don’t agree with everything you said, but you hit some good points and hats off to you for your inciteful comment……i think it’s shady that premo never visited him..if he did visit him then i stand corrected, but if not then it’s definitely something wrong…the fact that he (guru) and premo have not talked in, don’t quote me on this, but in 7 yrs….is what i’ve heard…but if it’s more than 3yrs, yeah then there has to be some bad feelings..i mean you got holidays,birhtdays, a card or something…..i agree with the fact that Solar should have anticipated this, because of Guru’s legacy with Gangstarr and reached out to his family when it looked like he might not be coming out of the coma…i don’t think he was greedy…i think he was extremely loyal and that might have clouded his judgement…i had a simular experience when my mother passed away. i was her only child and had to deal with Relatives and friends wanting the funeral proceedings to go a certain way. which i felt was contradictory to what she wanted..i just know that friends and family i had not heard from in a while were trying to dictate certain things to me, because they felt i probably was too young and inexperienced….i got offended, but in the end it all worked out fine, we put a aside our differences and had a celebration for my mother’s transition…. let’s pray the same outcome will happen for Guru’s family, friends and associates……..Peace

I went through this same situation with two family members and some snakes. At the end of the day he can make it seem like he’s doing goodwill by allowing them to do the funeral arrangements and that’s fine. Because he never and does not give a damn about that man’s body. He cares only about profiting off that man’s legacy which he fully intends to do. It’s all about the money at the end of the day.
Just look at how he said he helped him bathe and other things to “preserve his dignity” but soon as he takes his last breath you’re letting it all out? You never gave a damn about that man’s dignity.
You will never hear a goodwill statement of him putting together a tribute of any sort that will benefit that man’s son. All profits from Guru’s legacy will go to Solar and his mission. That’s what this is all about and handing over that man’s remains to his family so easily after he presided over his demise for so long just lends credence to this.
I’ve been in the same situation so I advise the parties involved to worry about the young child and that’s it.

Guru is supposed to be this nigga’s brother, partner, and best friend, but he doesn’t know if he’s going to make it to his funeral??? What bullshit is that? It is obvious you don’t know about hospital rules and regulation. You can’t go in to any hospital and do what the fuck you want. Hospitals require clearance to see a patient.In some cases you have to be a certain age to be allowed on a certain floor depending on what illness the patient has. So you talking about that blah,blah ,blah about you will bum rush in to a hospital to see someone is total bullshit.
As far you speculating why didn’t Premo try to get in contact with Guru. Maybe he did but people like Solar probably made a wedge between them. My only skepticism comes in when Solar says Guru was a family man and dealt with woman. So on the bathing aspects of things you might think a female would fit more appropiately for that part but i can also understand looking out for your friend. A few of Richard Pryor male friends did the same deed for him. So im left just wandering about certain things. It didnt really sound like Solar was lying, stuttering or showing any kind of sign of funny body language.

The fact that he called him a “Friend” and then called him a “partner” indicates that “partner” means exactly what it sounds like. If he just meant friend, why did he have to say it twice? if you check out some old interviews after the 2003 demise of gangstarr, there’s talk of Solar helping Guru clean up from booze problems, which have been documented in the past. Then there’s talk of “belief” systems – I don’t buy the “relationship” talk, I buy Guru falling under this guy’s influence under the guise of some cult beliefs, he wouldn’t be the first musician that this happened to. What do people who get caught up in cults and obscure belief systems/programs do? they write off their past, cut off ties with everybody, family, friends etc and only run with their fellow cult people.
As for Solar, it’s clear he manipulated Guru in some way, there’s no way a grown man with a clear mind would sign away rights to his money/music/attorney power etc. It’s also clear to me that Solar is out for money on this.
