Video: Jay-Z & Warren Buffet talk success at the 400 Forbes Summit
Posted by Mr.North under good for hip hop , interview , life beyond rap , things I love[61] Comments
Recently, Jay-Z sat down with the richest man in North America, Warren Buffet and Steve Forbes the Editor-In-Chief of Forbes Magazine at Buffet’s Omaha, Nebraska office. The meeting was for the first ever 400 Forbes Summit in the upcoming issue of Forbes “400 World’s Richest People List”. The hour long conversation covers each definiton of success, how luck has played a role in both of their lives, the music business and Hov ends off with the story he mentioned to Angie Martinez last year on how he almost lost all his music from his Blueprint 3 LP.
Hov on the Music Business:
I think that’s a big thing about a business is recognizing change, the variables are not the same. You know there’s a big thing called the Internet, so it changes the landscape of everything I think the consumption of music is at an all time high, and as we see the music business is down. So something has to be done now, you know there was a time in music where a hit solved everything, you just had a hit it didn’t matter what was going on, you know… get a hit and it solved every ones problems, that’s no longer true not today. I think just having that mentality for so long, I think the music business is still stuck in that place because you know we haven’t figured it out.
Jay-Z & Warren Buffet’s Forbes Magazine issue hits stands tomorrow.

Christ said its easier for a camel to go through the eye of an needle than it is for a rich man to enter into the Kingdom of Heaven. I wonder why

Save the “Christ Said” stuff for someone else. I was brought up in the church and have actually read the ENTIRE bible so quotes don’t impress me.
Everyone is throwing around claims with weak proof, generic quotes and paper thin connections.
So I guess it would have been easier for Jay-Z to “enter the kingdom” as a broke drug dealer vs a success business man?
I don’t lose sleep over the next mans dealings. I also am humble enough to not place myself as judge and jury over people I don’t personally know.

Yo so I swear fo god you just took the words right out of my mouth they put that coon on the cover… Dude such a sucker… after losing that hour of my life I will never get back I finally noticed why I hate Jay Z! Dude is a fuckin wannabe he is a career wannabe I dont mind him being rich or famous or successful he just very unauthentic and lacks a genuine feel like he’s forever trying to be something other than himself.. And thats sad…
Nigga be you!!
He went from being Jaz-O to Being the best Biggie/Nas clone he could become to being Dame Dash to now being a punky hipster like Kanye and it seems the more he progress he will morph into a fake Obama and a whiteman… Obama is authentic he knows his shit and can spit that shit a whole host of ways… He’s truly the best of us…Jay-Z is just not real but he’s flavorful enough to cross over and not have white folks feel threatened… They have Jaz-O Jr on the cover because they know he a coon and will tap dance but next year they will put stubborn ass 50 Cent on the cover because they respect him!!

but thats what makes jay z jay z
if you watch his career as a rapper n business man hes very strategic in how he sustained n improves his career
from bein jaz o lil homie to takin a lil from big n nas to dame dash to rocafella n the philly rappers movement to baggin beyonce, it all worked out for him n lengthened his career
n Obama isnt authentic dude is a puppet for the men of higher power

Every President is a puppet because at the end of the day they still dont sign their own checks there is another person that does that….
And lets be straight Roc A Wear was Dame shit as well as the label..He like Jay so much that he wanted to teach him the business and make him a partner little did he know the dude he was teaching would stab him in the back… I think your recognition of the facts is to be respected. I’m still waiting for the thing that he can call his own!! something he created on his own Like Swizz and his sound Quincy Jones and his sound and composer style, what that he has didnt he steal.. And hey thats not a bad thing people need to learn how to respect the talent and not just the talent thief even though thats the basis in which this country was built.. its also why Silicon Valley still respects Steve Jobs more than Bill Gates even though Gates is super caked up… Gates will forever be the shrewd business man while Jobs is considered by most a creative force that comes ones in a life time…

how bout stop begging whitey to give you jobs and begging whitey to improve your schools. stop begging whitey to teach you about more black leaders then the ones the currently teach.
i find it funny when a jay-z comes along he’s bashed
tyler perry……….he’s bashed
but then we turn around complaining about “how come whitey dont show this about “US”.

jay z is the furthest from “just a hot rapper” that you can get your ideas are terribly expressed.. i guess we know why someones just a dj and not a rapper.. hah.. and not having a ged and making it as far as hes is is a bigger testament and speaks volumes of how talented he is and he was literally speaking of how his methods of success would work in any field! were you watching the same interview? all he spoke of was hard work and figuring out what u love and executing

You people are failing to realize that the Jay-Z we are seeing on Forbes and Essence and all these prestigious places isn’t because he’s a hot rapper or dope lyricist. Shits beyond that point now. The man has made it, he’s controlled every aspect of his career, every media coverage. Everything. He’s stayed out of the trouble most rappers can’t seem to escape, its become Jay-Z the businessman as opposed to Jay-z the rapper. Why not have him be the role model for our black youth along side Obama? Soooo what he started off a drug dealing rapper?! LOOK AT HIM NOW!

It’s easy to discern an intelligent person from a person who’s around intelligent people and doesn’t belong. Jay says “you know” 1000 times during his one explanation of what made him stand out in his initial endeavor into the music business. Not to say he isn’t intelligent in his own right and I respect him for sure, but he does not belong in the company of men like Warren Buffet. That being said, it seems like Jay-Z in an overall perspective has become the greatest rapper of all time, he has become the master of the game in every sense, no-one else can say that they have made it to the level that he is at.

Saying “you know” doesnt indicate a lack of intelligence versus someone who speaks and expresses himself one way versus the other. These are men from two different environments who’s level of communication are vastly different. Is it a bit annoying…perhaps, but one is college educated and the other isnt. You might like Warren Buffet’s way of communicating and others and I think the people who actually need to receive this message, might appeal more to Jay’s. I think what should be gathered and thought about on a higher level is how this man from the projects, who experienced a hard upbringing is sitting in the room with the man who never went through those misfortunes and can still convey a message of some success after the rap world. There are many still making albums but not making the right business decisions. To brand his name, escape the common rapper/black male pitfalls considering our innate deficiencies is admirable in itself. Don’t look at the person, look at the methods used to acheive. By comparison, you’ll see no difference between Mr. Buffet or Jay. Hard Work, Persistence, Determination and most importantly, not allowing luck to make a fool of you by being unprepared to take advantage of it. Way too much negative comments for a positive spotlight. Please excuse any grammatical errors.

Thats like saying Kobe is the greatest when Kobe copied everything from Jordan. To say Jay-Z is the greatest is to say B.I.G is God because Jay-Z copied 99.8% of B.i.g’s style and the other .2% of Nas and Jaz-O

All I’ve got to say to all you haters is $400 MILLION DOLLARS!!! That’s more than ALL OF US on this page have made in our lives thus far! Bill Gates was a crook. Mark Zuckerberg is a crook of sorts. People just amaze me at their perception of Jay-Z. If Dame was SO amazing why haven’t we seen or heard from him on a major scale in the last few years? *crickets chirp*
Look man, I’m not saying to have to like the man, his music, or whatever. But this clone of Biggie/Nas foolishness has to stop. Show me how Jay is a clone of Biggie and I’ll show you someone who’s a clone of someone else. Hip-Hop takes from one writer to the next. The originality of hip hop is to take an idea and expand on it… that’s the way the idea becomes refreshed or original….
Everybody talks real tough behind a keyboard and a mouse. My question is, if Jay-Z was standing next to you, would you still have all this to say or would you be congratulating dude for his success like a punk, recognizing him as one of the great rappers of the last 15yrs, and be asking could you hold something?
Don’t worry I’ll wait…

Interesting comments on this one….a lot of extremes but that’s to be expected.
I just wonder a few things….
-Can you really be fake and luck your way into the level of success Jay has?
-With so many people speaking on the next man’s money what would “you” do in Jay’s position that would be so much better?
-I think Jay has many ills in his past that helped make his career move but can any of us truly say we don’t have skeletons in our closet’s?
-Where is the line between legit opinions and just being mad at a guy for being successful?

what i dont get is this.
since when did failing or underacheiving = a good thing???
it seems to me that if jay was to have made moves that would have left him complaining about marketing and the record company jerking him then he will be the artist being wronged by the powers that be.
but since he made REAL HUSTLER moves and suceeded in his craft all he gets is hate from people that just cant phantom a blackman with no high school diploma, who sold drugs and grew up in the ghetto making it.
they rather relate to a rapper who is in and outta jail buying dumb shit, owns nothing and is getting “exposed” by a kat stacks.
since when did losing become winning and winnign become losing?
if this was buffett, trump and forbes talking then people would be taking notes and saying this is what we NEED to aspire to
but since its jay then they try and belittle the brother and make excuses of why he’s where he at.
then we wonder where the crabs in the “barrel” at, look at the comments
