I have to ask who asked the questions 50 or the interviewer? I mean I can see if 50 starts off by say did you hear what J said on the AMA’s but he doens’t. come on yeah 50 can tell the interview not to ask those questions but why wouldn’t he address something Jay cleary wants to talk about wants to wait until the first few weeks of BISD goes away so he doesn’t help 50’s sales.

Plus the years to build the roc and make those albums created a foundation for jay. FIF has little to no foundation to work with.

I’d rather have 12/13 platinum joints over 15 years than 2 huge cd’s then I fall off and be forgotten in 6. 50 is comparing apples to oranges, he was a phenomenon because he had the perfect storm with the story (the shooting), the right connections (em & Dre co sign) and music (mixtape buzz/Dre beats). Jay’s thing has always been consistency, putting out album after album and the music/lyrics always being at least good sometimes great depending on your taste. If we use 50’s logic MC Hammer, Master P or Nelly can use the same argument. 50 had 2 big albums and 1 huge deal (vitamin water) but will we be talking about him 5 years from now?

I have checked this site on and off for sometime now. And find it funny how some of you view two rich men having a public spat. I can enjoy both sides of this back and forth because of the stance that each person takes. Jay Z through out his legend has one well known rap battle. Yes I used rap battle because thats all this and every diss 50 Cent or anyone else has ever put out been. ( outisde of the murda inc thing) Mainstream hip hop is high school. And has always been high school. If you don’t see it that way your blind. 50 cent is a true historion of the games played in this form of music. Krs ONe and his C.M. album is what he lived by growing up so that is his bible. Go back and listin to that record and you can understand why he acts the way he does. All it talks about is the under dog getting what he wants by force. On the flip side of that you have Jay and Big Daddy Kane being he’s model. And for the most part thats what he has picked to be like just on a grander scale. More about the style and word play. Knowing how to take his shots in a slick way. Krs ONe would call your name out if he wanted to play and so does 50. Jay is more like that cool kid in class who got into one public fight and lost. So he never wants to feel that ever agian. While 50 feels better being in over his head having doubters saying this and that. High school shit on both sides. Just on a higher level. The grown ups for the most part dont make the mainstream anymore they stay as under ground artist. Look back at Krs ONe when he grew up his music became more under ground. If you were a fan of both people this should not make you less of one of them after. They both put out nice albums this year. One hotter than the other song for song. (BISD)

Yo Jay-Z had like 80 Mil in 5yrs by the time he put out, Volume 2 Hardknock Life and Hardknock Life tour, they had a lot of things poppin including Rocawear which started in 1998.
So if we really look into that argument 50 ain’t coming out on top real talk.
Rocawear is consistent, G-unit clothing is not on that level.

50 Cent followed every move made by Krs ONe. But fell in love with his first outting. Due to him being in that life. To sit there and think all these rappers dont check what each does is stupid. Jay looks at the moves made by other rappers out. And He tries to son every new thing out. And those who dont shake his hand he sends a slick diss at. On the street they call that person a snake. In his world its called smart. To your point of the rhymes that 50 has been putting out mainly on the Curtis record I’d say go back and listen. My first post didnt swing either way. I just simply laid out each persons blue print. One moves like this rapper and the other moves as that one did. At the end of the post I just told the truth. BISD was a better album (song for song) than BP3. As for my high school(Make sure you read I only feel Mainstream HIP HOP is high school) comment I don’t know what school you went to but the bully was never seen as a cool kid. And the smart kids only had smart friends thinking they were cool. NERDS didnt get the bitches my dude. Jocks and thugs got all the girls worth having sex with. You have the smart Jock (Jay) and you have your smart thug Bad boy image (50) who can play on both persons side but feel better being around people they I.D. with. As far as being seen as a 50 stan thats cool (3 out of 4 albums being good is I thought a good average) LoL. I dont have a black card or jet or hang out with other famous people like they do so hearing how one does gets a little old. I like more of a grimmy brand of hip hop. As much as a person shooting there gun and killing in there rap might suck for you. Its all on what you like. Or what mood you are in. This is for some of you other posters here. Keep it 100. I got a question. All this talk about “Def Jam bought his albums, thats why his numbers are were so high the first week”, where is this coming from and how can this be proven? Whats the logic behind this statement? What signs and trends point towards this being a possibility of happening? Im just curious, because even if it is happening, I would love to know how this can be proven. And please dont tell me anything about a drop off from 1st to 2nd week. Thats a obvious thing to happen. When anticipation is high, an item will sale more quickly at its release than it will the following week and thereafter. Whether its records, movies, or hell a iPhone. So please, somebody explain to me how every “knows” that this is occuring.

One clue you can look at if the label bought a lump sum of units is the numbers the following week. If they drop from lets say 300′000 to 58′000 the next week then you just got saved that first week. there are other ways to find out but that is the most common. Putting a little juice on the numbers has been in the game for a min. now. And Def Jam has been known to do it for years.

I am still waiting on someone to explain this label buying records issue to me. Everyone claims it happens, even though they cant prove it and it makes absolutely no sense. The second week drop off is the most ridiculous thing Ive ever heard. Why and how could anyone expect just as many people to go out and buy a record the second week it comes out as the first week it was out. Its like common sense goes out the window when some shit is said over and over without any basis.

you ever heard of tax-write-off for expenses, the label can get the money back. I can’t speak for DefJam, but have you ever been to a album release(major label, e.g. Interscope) party before?
They hand out gift bags with the album included, even when you enter a labels main lobby (not the security lobby on the 1st floor) they have albums laying around near the waiting area. This was the practice before iTunes (now they can hand you a card with a code on it, to download the album, to prevent guess from copying/ripping the music).
I can’t say for sure if the CD has a UPC codes on the back, if they do, each album would count towards the records sold via Soundscan….
The requirements for reporting sales to Nielsen SoundScan are that the store has Internet access and a point of sale (POS) inventory system. Submission of sales data to Nielsen SoundScan must be in the form of a text file consisting of all the UPCs sold and the quantities per UPC on a weekly basis.

From 1994 to about 2000 you had about 8 great saling solo atrist on Def Jam. LL being the only one with a built in fan base. In buisness to make a product more than what it appears that company would by the product to make it seem like it is the best thing smoking on the market. You call that using your budget money. Street teams for the label and rapper go to mom and pop stores pay the owner a little side cash and swipe the CD more than once. To count as being purched however many times they want it to be. It is what they do. If you dont believe me ask someone you can trust in the buisness. It isnt new. To think a company wouldnt give the product every chance to succed is just stupid. Jay Z sold 635,000 on the kingdom come record and if you say that album was that hot your lying to yourself.

No company is gonna buy albums they are trying to sell. Because it’s costing them millions to market imagine just buying back the records you wanna sell. how do you profit? Its known that first weeks sales are the most important it shows where the artist is going. Plus these reords are bought in bulk and most be scan to be able to get a weekly count. That’s why ther have nielson soundscan. each records sold gets scanned thru the cash register….

I believe it has happen previously and possibly still does but if you think about in this era with the economy, no company can’t afford to buy back records. It defeats the purpose of making generating capitol. lets make you buy 100,000 records and the second and third week are down 60% prior to first week sales. the interest from the people is not gonna be great. People are not looking for the album so then how can your company sell them back to the stores. Yall telling me they gonna give away 100,000 records away I DOUBT THAT. PLUS IF YOU SELL THEM BACK THOSE REORDS CAN’T BE COUNTED BECAUSE THEY WERE ALREADY BOUGHT AND SCANNED….

Major labels can afford to do that, its called a business expense and may go towards their (or artist) marketing&promotion budget. Someone like Jay-Z could sell(fund raiser) autographed copies of his album as limited edition items.

Calling someone a dick rider only works if that person gets mad at the person doing it. Since I could care less keep it coming. Interscope just may have bought those albums off the Curtis record. Def jam still bought the hell out of kingdom come. Your love for Jay Z doesn’t stop that fact. Hell I can go back to BP2 to see they bought that wack ass record too. And this coming from a fan of both rappers. (3 out 4 for 50.) (5 out of 11 for Jay.) If you need a run down of those 5 albums I’m sure these other Jay Z star struck fans here can help with that. If not buy all 11 and return the ones you don’t like LOL
