On the eve before Grammy night, some of entertainment’s biggest stars all gathered in Beverly Hills for Clive Davis & The Recording Academy’s annual Pre-GRAMMY Gala at The Beverly Hilton Hotel on Saturday night. Hosted by the legendary music executive Clive Davis, the 2013 edition was to honor fellow industry executive Antonio “L.A.” Reid. The evening also served as celebration to Whitney Houston, who passed exactly one year to the day just hours before last year’s gala was set to begin.

Davis honored the icon with a rare performance video of Houston’s “All The Man That I Need.” Also calling Whitney the “greatest, greatest singer of our lifetime” as the world continues “to be so shattered by her passing.” He also thanked brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Pat Houston, who attended the event. Afrojack kicked off the night’s performances along with Miguel, Emeli Sande, Patti Smith, the Lumineers, Jennifer Hudson, Gladys Knight, and finally Usher. The R&B star performed acoustic covers of his hit singles “Burn” and Climax” while honoring the man who discovered him in L.A. Reid. Reid was awarded with the president’s merit award and shared a funny moment as Usher thanked him for one moment in particular, stating “If I never can thank you for anything, it would be for not letting me go with the name Cha Cha.”

Pharrell, Wiz Khalifa, former couple John Mayer and Katy Perry, Ashanti, Earth Wind & Fire, Ne-Yo, Babyface, Miley Cyrus, Tyra Banks, Frank Ocean, Skrillex, Akon, Dave Grohl, Magic Johnson, Olympian Ryan Lochte, John Legend and more attended the star-studded night.
